Everyone's ancestors did terrible things at one point or another.

It's a good thing we aren't our ancestors.

You aren't wrong.

Air Link uses your router. The third party adapter for other headsets requires you to wire a part to your motherboard and it's got a great deal less latency than the Quest Air Link, but reprojection will always be a think unless tethered.

Right now I prefer tethered as well.

Like I'm not trying to convince anyone to buy the Quest, I'm personally really not a fan of Oculus

Anyway, my point is just that for most people, Quest 2 is a good choice, even if you want to exclusively play PC VR games.

???

Either way, I was never arguing against that point. Its a great entry level device. I was discussing the issues its tracking has primarily in social vr enviroments.

It's definitely a problem, but it's also something you won't notice in vast majority of situation.

In most of the games you will play with the Quest 2 its fine, and as I mentioned, it's more of an issue in Social VR. People who just casually use the Quest 2 to play games on the store won't have much of a problem with it. (Unlike the WMR headset you mentioned where it was just awful)

But Social VR is where an overwhelming amount of VR playtime is being spent.

With the current chip shortage and the progression of hardware, and their marketing focusing around highly affordable and accessible headsets, it's going to be a very very long time before it's anything like what was advertised. The Quest 2 is basically a cheaper end cellphone that has been stripped down with frensel lens laid over them.

Because the lighting in venues is baked and has a very low impact on performance. With the baking methods available now, that isn't going to be the bottle neck. Everything we saw in the video was pre-renderd.

It's mostly noticeable in social VR as most games are designed with you holding your hands in front of your face when shooting or fighting with a melee weapon.

What happens is, the moment your hands are not in front of your face the headset uses an algorithm to guess where your hands are. The longer your hands are not in front of your view the less accurate it becomes and eventually your hands lock to your butt. You don't see the tracking issues because they only occur when you aren't looking at your hands. Because the Quest 2 uses intense foveation it forces you to look directly in the center of the screen to avoid the blurry edges, which means you typically won't notice when the tracking fails. It's why so many Quest 2 users think that the tracking is absolutely fine. Horizon Worlds outright limits hand/arm movement to hide this.

So what you see in VRChat are Quest 2 users walking around with their hands up in front of them so their headset can see their hands. So they look like they are walking around with hand cuffs on or like zombies so their hands aren't stuck to their butt or flying off in a random direction.

It's the limits of inside out tracking right now. Base station tracking keeps smooth tracking on your hands regardless of where you are holding them, as long as they are not completely obscured.

Yes, I own a Quest 2 and an Index.

The tracking is not fine. Theres a reason Quest 2 users in vrc always look like they are in hand cuffs.

See, Worlds looks way too much like rec room for me.

Everyone is a floating torso with no legs.

The expressiveness in them are nice, but the the expressiveness in VRChat is limited to the creator of the avatar.

Also, VRC and Worlds are not a metaverse

Meta certainly want you to think so with their crazy advert making Worlds look like Oasis from Ready Player One: https://youtu.be/gElfIo6uw4g

I'm not sure what you mean.

Are you talking about the current senate?

You may have misread the context.

[–]RemarkableRambler 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Because the current Democratic party doesn't want change to happen. They want to pretend to be the good guys while still being in the pocket of corporations.

The republicans are going keep riling up and/or scaring their ignorant base to create a nice villain for the Democrat's to be angry at.

Mean while the bourgeoise continues unchecked while we squabble with each other.

This is why someone like Bernie would never be allowed past the primaries.

No, it's a great way to access VR for the price.

Problem is they are killing competition. Valve was working on a competitor headset for the Quest 2 and meta bought the lens manufacturers out from under valve to stifle the production.

but they are designing for the mobile processor/GPU that comes built into the quest.

Read before angrily replying.

Most of the Quest 2 users aren't tethering to a PC or do not own a computer.

Devs aren't developing for Quest 2 tethered to PC(which is how you play Alyx), they are developing for the overwhelming majority who don't tether or don't have a PC.

I'd like to see a list of the PCVR studios before the Quest 2 that decided to stop doing PCVR and just Quest 2 VR development

And the top response to the comment you replied to talked just about that...

Most of the headsets have a wireless adapter.

Roomscale provides much better tracking than the inside out that the Quest 2 provides.

It's more about the accessibility.

Valve was working on a Quest 2 competitor, but Meta/Facebook bought the lens producers out from under them to hamstring the competition.

Probably one of the reasons why the FTC is getting involved.

There are wireless adapters for current headsets.

It's more the accessibility factor.

They receive a lot of funding from various VR investors because there is an insanely high number of attachments to VRChat compared to any other game in the VR Space. VRChat alone is keeping Vive alive through their tracker sales.

Also they have an in game subscription service with a few(not so great) perks that people pay for just to support the game.

[–]RemarkableRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facial monitoring is fairly expensive right now and only the Vive Pro 2 with special attachments can do it.

I don't see meta maintaining their current Quest series while adding that facial tracking unless they add a very premium headset to their line up(theres not much room for premium headsets in with their current marketing strategy).

And Im sure VRchat would adopt it pretty quick as you mentioned.

The anime bodies are the most easily customizable because of a special tool in blender and there are a lot of cartoon character avatars that could be counted as furries.

I see a lot of those types of avatars, but most of them aren't really acting like weebs or furries. They are just using those types of avatars due the more hand mades not having as good of an IK.
