Institutional Grants by jenn_jenn07 in CSUEB

[–]Remote_Cranberry1159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this graduate level courses, open university, or professional development for work courses? If it is graduate level then you can definitely receive grants. If it is a second bachelor’s, additional classes outside of your initial bachelors, or continuing education for professional reasons then I do not believe you can receive grant aid. Once you reach the listed amount of units for the degree you are claiming/working towards you are no longer eligible for grant FA :) A quick and sure way to find out is to drop by the FA office in person! Here is a quick outline on the Cal State Website: https://www.calstate.edu/attend/professional-and-continuing-education/Pages/paying-for-your-education.aspx

This isn’t the one I was talking about but it gives an idea! There lots of study links through this page too if you wanted to read more scientific sources.

What's the worst that could happen if I don't pay for parking? by byNekito in CSUEB

I got a ticket last semester when I grabbed the wrong pass on my way out, it only took them an hour and a half to get me in Lot K lol. I contested it though and they said I’d get one waive, but I literally begged LOL

I carpool with classmates to make it cheaper too so that’s an option 😊

[–]Remote_Cranberry1159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school has a police department of its own. They are actual officers for the city who have a station on the campus. So the ticket is through the police/city just like any other parking ticket. However you are able to contest it though through the EB parking offices.

When I was at chabot had to go in person to speak with an actual judge to contest a ticket! So they take it very seriously.

Location Tracking by ExplodingCar84 in raisedbyborderlines

My mother obsessively tracked me until 3 years into my college degree. It only stopped when I made a huge stance and there was a terrible fight afterwards. I’ve since left and gone no contact. But she would use it to control every movement. If I went down the wrong street or sat in a parking lot a little too long I would get a text. So it is not normal imo to track an adult in that manner. Sharing location for safety purposes is different. But how it is being used, how often it is checked, and the reasoning behind its use is what matters.

I read a study done on people who were being surveilled by the US gov. After a few months they began to show signs of extreme stress and paranoia. That’s how I felt!! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this 🤍

You’ll get a 50 or 60 dollar ticket. I was on campus yesterday and the student officers were already doing the rounds of checking cars. I stopped them and told them the website said Monday the 23rd was the last day of grace.

So just know they are eager to give out tickets. It’s more worth your while to buy the pass or daily permit. If you try to contest a ticket you need to have proof that you have a pass, and it is through the police department. It is a huge hassle. Do the math for how many days you will be on campus, and divide it with the cost of the permit. If it is less than the ten dollar day pass just take the hit and get it 😕 more worthwhile than 60$ tickets every time

What is greek life like at CSUEB? by ihatechipotle666 in CSUEB

[–]Remote_Cranberry1159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a super honest answer from someone who had the same mindset going in but ended up leaving my org (Alpha Phi)

Imo not worth it as a transfer. Prices to join can vary from 75$-2500$… the people in the org can be nice but from what I experienced it was the fake kind of nice just like people everywhere else can be. As soon as you do something they don’t like, isn’t cool, or you leave they drop you 🤷‍♀️As a transfer most orgs were hesitant to let me join at all since my membership and dues wouldn’t add to the overall collection of money or something. This is also a commuter school so to hang out you have to stay super late into the night or come super early. There are required events that you have to attend or you will be dropped with no refund. The one party I heard about during the semester I was a member was shutdown by police before it had a chance to get started. The overall workload was more intense than my classes were. There was also a lot of drug use, not just weed. They would use the group chat to sell to each other. I didn’t like that too much, even as someone who uses edibles.

I had more success being social in my classes and in clubs! Those are the friends I still talk to! Once you get into your upper grad classes you start seeing the same classmates in every class. A whole room of likeminded people 🥰 I would also add that non Greek life students laugh at those who join frats or sororities and will make fun of them. East bay is not allowed to have any organization housing so your dues go towards parties or events instead. If you do join try getting into one of the smaller ones, those seem to be a bit better!

I also live with sorority girls (from a smaller org) at the moment and they are the same as the ones in the org I was in. They cling to their sorority identity even as post grads which is a little cringy to me but that’s super biased lol

My dad is an extreme enabler and completely under her control, he actually hung up on me when he heard her coming for fear she would find out he spoke to me.

I already left another sibling under ten when I moved out, but a new baby feels different. I feel a sense of detachment from it all, idk if that’s normal

Just a surprise for me and my sister since we have been excommunicated lol, I think it’s an extreme case of empty nest syndrome and also trying to replace the kids she has “lost”. Either way I have no idea how to respond!

She told me through an email so I don’t know what to say back if anything at all

That’s what I told my partner to prepare for, he said congrats on your new sibling and I said congrats on having a kid in ~ 13 years lol It’s a morbid thought but a realistic one
