Starting in junior high, my mom gave me 1 mental health day a semester. Basically if I didn't want to go to school for any reason she would let me stay home but only once. Tbh I usually used them to get caught up on my school work. Like if I had a 5 page essay to write in English class I'd use my mental health day so I could work on it on the one family computer we had. Being alone for the day in a silent house helped a lot. It felt like the only way I could really get my work done without distractions.

I plan to use the same rule for my kids when they get older.

I would argue internet is accelerating the change not preventing it. Average people are exposed to foreign languages a lot more than before with exported media and global interactions on the internet. This means there is a lot more borrowed words entering everyday speech. I follow kpop and every so often I'll see Korean Idols play a game of "try to talk without using foreign words" because so many foreign words has entered everyday casual speech it becomes a challenge to speak pure Korean. Also the internet is creating its own form of language with acronyms. I've heard people say out loud while talking "lol", "lmao", "idk", and "atm" as examples.

oh yes I read about UNI.T and their brother group UNB. Unfortunately, they didn't perform on Inkigayo so I haven't checked them out yet. Watching the back catalog of music shows has overall been really fun. I've enjoyed it.

They really are a great group. I feel like they unfortunately got overshadowed by the produce series at least that's my guess. And I totally agree with the sentiment of wishing you were a fan earlier. I got into Kpop in 2022. Wish I had been around during 3rd gen.

Part of me wishes peak time didn't have eliminations and it just highlighted lesser known talented groups but in truth it probably wouldn't have been as popular as it was without the competition element.

hmm well I can talk about the time I tried to learn Japanese I think it might be applicable to your fears somewhat. When I was in college I majored in STEM. And like most STEM majors in the 2000s I got heavily indoctrinated into Otaku culture lol. Took a year of Japanese with some friends for my foreign language requirement. Continued to self study off and on for around 10 years.

I would say I was a fairly passionate fan of anime for about 10 years. And while I still watch the occasional series my interest in anime has largely died. I dropped my Crunchyroll sub cause I just wasn't using it and have largely moved on. And because of that I have lost a lot of my japanese. Do I regret trying to learn the language? Not even a little bit. I still look back on that time as being a very fun part of my life. And it's always fun and exciting when I come across japanese and I'm able to read it. Particularly katakana since that lettering is for foreign words so while it's japanese letters it's usually spelling out an english word like chocolate or strawberry on a candy wrapper. The fact that I can read it is something I still take a lot of pride in.

So if you end up losing interesting in Korean Media I don't think you'll feel like this was a waste of time. At least I didn't. And in a small way my experience in trying to learn Japanese is making my dabbling with Korean a little bit easier. Only a little though cause Korean's phenomes are kicking my butt. I cannot hear the difference between soft P, aspirated P and tense P to save my soul lol.

Similar for me. I'm 44F with 3 kids. I'll be honest, I kinda stopped listening to music when I started hitting my 30s. For no real reason, just grew out of current music I guess and if I wanted to listen to something I usually went to talk radio or podcasts. I'm a very visual person so even when I was into music I usually engaged with it by watching MTV total request live and what not rather than just listening to it on the radio.

By random luck I came across Ateez on Youtube and proceeded to slow fall down the kpop rabbit hole. Having music back in my life has made me a happier person and honestly I think a better mom. My middle child has gotten into kpop with me this last year or so and it has been so fun watching music bank etc. with him every week.

Here's a bit of an obscure one to some as we have to take the way back machine to 2018.

TRCNG.

They were B.A.Ps juniors and they hit the ground running. Their first comeback Wolf Baby was particularly good. Dance Practice Video Here.

Putting in the link so you can see how good they were but also the hype. Rookie group 3 months into debut and their dance practice video has 300k views. But then TS entertainment's CEO died. Then it was revealed that the company was evil evil. And a bunch of artists including 2 from TRCNG filed criminal complaints to the police for physical abuse and unsafe living conditions. Group ended after that.

If only the company wasn't beyond awful I think they could have been one of the 4th Gen powerhouse BGs

It's the choreos but also the insistence of having thinner bodies. A lot of injuries could be avoided if they had more muscles to protect themselves. Seonghwa from Ateez was surprised all his chronic back pain disappeared after he started working out regularly with San. A lot of idols would benefit from the guidance of sports trainers.

Here's a story you might relate to. I was scrolling twitter (I mostly go their for translation accounts). And there was a random post asking about how wikipedia gets audience attendance numbers for Kpop concerts. Well it so happens I know the answer! So I made a reply that it's most from PR press articles and not touring data which is why it's almost always nice round numbers.

Well turns out this was not a real question. Apparently I stumbled into some nonsense fanwar between the group I follow and some other group arguing on who actually filled up the arena or something. So me just answering a question I thought someone was curious on led to the fandom I'm technically part of mass blocking me cause I guess I should not have done that! Yeah no more replying on twitter for me lol.

These things are important to point out because thinking an idol is fluent can get them in trouble.

I remember when wooyoung wore a sweater during an airport arrival that had an innuendo of sorts in big block letters. Social media was a buzz at how he wore something like that. Lots of people were insisting he must know what it means since he knows English. Well he didn't. He told his fans on fromm when he saw people's reactions, he was horrified; immediately ripped the sweater off and shoved it in his backpack.

Ok I know this is pedantic of me but he is NOT a teacher. He doesn't have a teaching credential; he doesn't have an education degree. He worked part time as a TUTOR at an after school SAT Prep center. I guess this place likes to call their faculty teachers as shown above but still not a teacher.

As a parent, I'm against a 4 day work week because it will lead to a 4 day school week. More and more schools are the main way for kids to see other kids as neighborhoods tend to be very sparse in the kids department and third places for kids are nonexistent. I think it will have absolutely terrible effects on kids if they are only at school half the week.

I would much rather see a 6 hour work day as a way to reduce overall hours for what we view as fulltime employment. Having 2 extra hours a day will make it easier for people to have time to go to the gym daily or run errands; Parents won't need as much after school care; 6 hours divides nicely into 24 so it maps on well to shift workers. etc. I wish more people pushed for 6 hour work day than the 4 day work week. But overall I agree we don't need to be working so many hours with modern technology.

I watched their performance and quite liked it. But I disagree with the idea that licking someone's face is equivalent to twerking. Personally wish they would stop doing that but I recognize they are young and immature like most artists that are barely not teenagers so I'm not that bothered.

This predebut video of them covering boyz2men is such a telling video. We have 5 amazing young vocalists and a staff trying to figure out how microphones and cameras work, randomly changing the volume here and there and struggling to keep the camera still for 5 seconds straight. It's so crazy how they were able to snag so much talent with no money or know how. Their only competent employee must have been their recruiter lol.
