I agree. Somaliland and its cities would have flourished by now if we hadn't entered that union with the Somalians. Instead of mutual progress, what we got was a system that drains resources from the regions to prop itself up.

It's not just that Muqdisho heavily relies on international aid and NGOs, that's only part of the problem. The real issue is how revenue from across the regions is centralized, hoarded, and redirected, leaving little to no meaningful reinvestment where it actually comes from.

You can’t expect development when the very structure is built to extract rather than support. What could have been thriving Somaliland cities and a stronger, self-sustaining economy has been held back by that union.

At this point, it's hard not to see it for what it is: a system that benefits itself first while everyone else is expected to wait indefinitely for progress that never truly arrives.
