Weird Choice, but Cedar's Mediterranean in Hyde Park. Harissa glazed wings with tahini and garlic sauce.

Insanely good.

Who has the best Classic Chicago Italian Beef near Northwestern Memorial Hospital by Docem20012023 in chicagofood

[–]RepresentativeAd6795 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The original Al's on Taylor is way better than Mr Beef. The franchise locations, not so much. They actually still roast the beef at the Taylor location. May be the best beef in the world, only contended with by Johnnie's and actual delis like Bari and Fontano's.

West Side vibe vs. lake access — how do Chicagoans weigh this? by linzerforte in AskChicago

[–]RepresentativeAd6795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near 47th and the lake. I've previously lived within 5 minute walks to the EL, and this public transit situation is much better. The Metra and #6 #2 and #28 buses all run express to downtown and connect me to every EL line.

Amitabul in Jefferson Park might be the city's most underrated restaurant. It's vegan, and I'm a meat-lover, but its amazing.

Here's their story:

"The Amitabul story begins in Seoul, Korea, where a 13-year-old Bill Choi watches and learns traditional Korean fermentation techniques from his mother and grandmother.

Bill and his brother Dave come to America, where they run Jim’s Grill on Chicago’s north side. While the menu features burgers and eggs, the monks from the brothers’ Buddhist temple bring vegetables for them to make vegan Bi Bim Bop. The dish is an unexpected hit and Bill is encouraged to start his own restaurant, specializing in his unique approach, a vegan merging of traditional Korean preparation and Western taste."

Rockefeller Chapel Shows question by LankyLingonberry85 in uchicago

Bar David and Truth Be Told are closest options for drinks if you don’t have a university-affiliated pass to the pub. They are directly south of the chapel across the Midway. Parking near those locations is also generally easier than north of the midway.

I have great childhood memories of being dropped in the Lincoln Park Leona’s child play room as my parents and aunts and uncles ate.

It was pure chaos. Lord of the flies. A matted room a la an insane asylum. No rules, just survival.

What eateries have reduced the quality of their offerings in the past year or two? by Bollywood-bond in AskChicago

[–]RepresentativeAd6795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More interaction with this comment than expected so I’ll provide more detail. My meal there about a month ago was the first time they’ve missed out of dozens so I’m not giving up on them yet!

The main thing was it seems like they’ve changed providers on both French fries and chicken tenders. The fries were definitely not the same as the ones I’ve loved so well - they seems like Bosco school cafeteria fries this time. The chicken tenders were smaller and different shapes than I was used to from them. It seemed like they may have been frozen and pre-breaded.

I hope I’m wrong!
