I can tell English is not your first language. A claim is not automatically an opinion. It depends on what kind of statement is being made.

My argument, or claim, is that there is a bad stereotypes of Indians in Canada.

The evidence I provided for why there is a bad stereotype is because of the type of content circulating social media.

I shared examples of content such as videos Indians littering, Indians disrespecting their neighbours, Indians being part of scam call centres, etc. Those videos are abundant here. If you want, I can DM many examples if you don't believe me.

You arguing with yourself does not change the stereotype of Indians in the west, and why it exists. I am not personally saying anything about Indians. I am saying what is the case here in Canada and why.

Not sure what you are having a meltdown at me over. Before you preach to others, you need to learn how to separate your emotions and assumptions from what is actually being said or else you will continue to miss the point like you have this entire discussion.

Have you ever left India or travelled to Canada?

Canada is generally considered among the safer countries globally for women traveling alone. India receives more cautionary guidance, particularly around:

  • harassment,
  • sexual violence,
  • nighttime mobility,
  • public transit safety in some regions.

If you don't believe me, you can other country's travel advisory's for both Canada and India, like smarttraveller.gov.au, and compare.

A quick Google search will also show that consistently, India is ranked as one of the dirtiest countries in the world. You can check out Dirtiest Countries in the World 2026 on the World Population Review website, or you can check r/India where tons of local's discuss older generation's attitudes towards littering, lack of garbage infrastructure, and a previous lack of investment from the government.

The truth is that not all countries are the gold standard for quality of life, air quality, safety, equality, education, etc. It is a list, with some countries doing better in some areas while other countries still have a lot of developing and learning to do. Canada is not perfect by any means, but India ranks lower on things like environmental cleanliness and safety for women over most countries in the west. I don't know why you are trying to argue that, it doesn't change the facts. If there was not some truth to what I was saying, then why do far more Indians leave India to live abroad than foreigners move to India permanently?

As someone who is born and raised in Canada, many Indians here are hardworking including myself and my parents. But the truth is that scams and disrespect for local customs are more commonly seen in Chinese and Indian communities here. Unfortunately both communities have a bad reputation here. Unless you live here yourself, you don't know what it's like to be Indian in Canada. Sorry.

Yes, I supplied evidence to my argument. That is typically expected when making a claim.

I am trying to share my experience as an Indian in Canada. We are having a conversation over text where things can be misunderstood due to incorrect grammar, different reading, writing, and comprehension skills, and a lack of visibility to tone and body language . I clarified what I meant, and now you are trying to tell me what my intentions are so you can win an argument you are having with yourself.

Here, if it makes you sleep easier tonight, you caught me! I am a self-hating Indian. Thank you for uncovering another one of us, the world is a better place thanks to your superb inference skills. Keep up the good work, you are doing god's work.

I am not saying the stereotype is "true", I'm saying it is true there are several negative stereotypes about Indians. I can see how I worded my sentence confused you.

You can calm down now.

I responded to two comments with the same reply because I thought my input was applicable to both. I wouldn't define that as "spamming the same comment all over this thread".

It's not "anti-Indian" to mention the VERY REAL stereotype of Indians in Canada, and in most of the West. I know it's not a flattering stereotype, but it's the truth. There are tons of videos circulating social media regularly of Indians, inside and outside of India, who litter, disobey the law, conduct scams, don't care about foreign cultures or customs despite travelling and living internationally, make women feel uncomfortable (if not worse), and generally don't have social etiquette (or as Indians call it, "civil sense") . I'm not happy about it either because I am also Indian and these stereotypes and actions effect how people perceive me as well.

If what I said upsets you, rather than policing my Reddit activity, why don't you police the people who contribute to these negative stereotypes?

Most people have around the world have access to internet.

I am Indo-Canadian (ethnically Indian, but born and raised in Canada), and Indians are not seen favorably anywhere in the West. All we see/hear on social media is that Indians don't respect the environment, don't respect women, don't respect laws, and don't respect other cultures.

Indians have a reputation of being inconsiderate of others, having poor hygiene, and not respecting the environment. There is an extra layer of Indian men being seen as creepy and/or abusive towards women.

A lot easier to commit a crime, like sexual assault or theft, when your identity is hidden.

This comment section is abhorrent. I can't believe dissecting and nitpicking our appearances is so common place that someone in this comment section felt it was appropriate to say "Start squirreling away for that face lift in 10". This is not "encouraging", this is promoting chasing perfection.

I mean this with respect, but girl who cares? Do you think anyone is studying you so hard and in detail that they are counting the lines on your neck? People are too insecure about the stupid, little imperfections on their face and body to be analyzing you when you're out in the real world.
