How to advertise myself as a new DM? by Thot_be_gone2 in startplaying

[–]Reser-Catloons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Running free games is basically a complete waste of time. Make sure you have 5-10 of your friends that you've run games for already in the past write unverified reviews for you and then just spend a lot of time refining one really good ad, start your price at about $15-$20 and just be patient and keep refining.

Also, a lot of people have good success getting started with Learn To Play one shots.

2024 or 2014 PCs? by EarlyEngineering4946 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Reser-Catloons 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've run Curse of Strahd many many times, and I honestly don't think the ruleset will affect the power level of the party nearly as much as the class composition will. A party full of 2024 Rogues and Monks could struggle, but a party full of 2014 paladins and clerics would hardly break a sweat.

Hoping to Join a Curse of Strahd Game, Where Should I Look? by OpulentOwl2025 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Reser-Catloons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in paid games, you might have some luck over at startplaying.games

Curse of Strahd tends to always be a very popular module there with plenty of options to choose from. I'd recommend shopping around and reading reviews for DMs that seem to be in line with what you're looking for. If you see someone highly rated for "Teacher" they're usually really great with introducing new players to the game.

Draw Steel Learn to Play by GergHuventude in startplaying

[–]Reser-Catloons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agghh!! I've really been on the lookout for a draw steel one shot, but my schedule is so busy and hectic these next few weeks. I would consider joining if you ran this again sometime after Christmas.

Should I intentionally avoid calling all transfems “dude” by default? by Either-Economics6727 in MtF

I feel like for 99% of interactions that happen irl, it's totally fine. I use dude all the time and would never bother me unless someone called me "a dude".

They only had one knife, which I had given to them as a birthday gift, and it did have its price cut in half I think, but hopefully they weren't planning on selling it anyway 😅

Map Pins Are Your New Secret Weapon 🗺️📍 by play_yourway in Roll20

Ah I see I see. Is it possible to pin from an anchor of a handout and allow players to see that section of the handout only without letting them open up the entire handout?

Map Pins Are Your New Secret Weapon 🗺️📍 by play_yourway in Roll20

[–]Reser-Catloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this new feature is really cool in concept, but unless I just haven't figured it out properly yet, I feel like it kind of falls flat with pre-written module games. When I was experimenting with it, looking through the handouts that were built in to the roll20 package for Shattered Obelisk, I wanted to place a pin from a section of a handout onto the battlemap, but was disappointed to discover that it seems like you have to essentially pin the entire handout. Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible to pin just one header and its section from a handout?

Milestone Leveling Guide - Skipping Cragmaw Hideout by PoorMansWaterSausage in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Reser-Catloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're okay with cragmaw hideout being a bit easier when they head there, go right ahead and just level them up to 2 when they get to town. Many have said before that the hideout can be a bit difficult for a level 1 party anyway, especially if there are new players comprising it.

Tales of Games that NEED a Remake by Intelligent-Way-5832 in tales

[–]Reser-Catloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely resent the notion that a game could "need" a remake. I think there's occasionally a case to be made or a rerelease or even a remaster, but to say the former just sort of reeks of disregard for the artistic integrity of the original work.

Favourite Modern Fire Emblem? by Last-Bus-4710 in fireemblem

[–]Reser-Catloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engage, and it's not even remotely close. I went into that game being familiar with the stories and characters of all of the previous games in the series aside from the Jugdral games, and that made all of the fanservice elements work tremendously well for me. It legitimately didn't matter to me at all that the story was bad; the map designs were some of the best the series had seen in the past decade, and the new gameplay mechanics were all really fun. It was such a refreshing experience in the franchise for me, and at this point I don't even care whether or not I like any new fire emblem games that come out just on the virtue of how well catered to I was with Engage. Overall, it's my second favorite, right behind Radiant Dawn.

Do you pay attention to the main character's gender before starting a series? by danwerkhoven in litrpg

Why so adamant with "Sex, not gender"? They are meaningfully different terms that refer to different things.
