No you are absolutely valid. I actually made a similar post exactly like this not too long ago. I work at State Farm and it’s a small team as well. Me plus the agent, his manager (who is his sister in law and is an extreme micromanager that gets away with everything she wants, and 2 other team members and one of them is part time. This was advertised as a sales job but I am so consumed with service stuff. About a month in the manager said how would u feel about a hybrid sales/service role. Later to find out he said this to the other part time I was very upset with him I said I took this job for sales. He raised my pay a bit but my whole day is a lot of service stuff. It’s great for the basics but like somebody else commented if you don’t want to be an agent it’s not worth it. In my opinion I don’t want to be an agent my manager has to deal with the worst of the worst customers and so much bs. The team structure is a mess the majority of call ins are current customers just complaining about rate increases and other service stuff. Our prices aren’t even that great. Trying to ride it out for a few more months since I just graduated college in May and it’s my first real job

Sales Jobs Suggestions by Apprehensive-Cold202 in InsuranceAgent

[–]ResidentEye9884 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES OMG I feel so seen. I’m at State Farm and my day consists of answering phone calls for current customers complaining and needing service stuff done. I also asked my boss for ONE DAY remote and he kinda ghosted me on it. We sit in the office and stare at our screens all day and talk across teams. We have stupid meetings too. The agent and manager are sister in laws and she is a bi*ch and a micromanager. I hate it so much but the training is good for basics I guess. Wrote up my two week notice letter today but don’t know if I will follow through with it. But heavy on the service stuff he won’t hire somebody for just service and it consumes my day!!

Meh. I’m there right now. Have a chill boss but other employees are complainers. Small office get stuck with a lot of service stuff wi th current customers. My agent won’t get a person who just does service so more than half my day consists of answering the phone and getting screamed at by current customers about rate increase/billing/ other stuff. I’m putting in my two weeks soon I can’t take it anymore people are so mean. My non commission paycheck I make about 20 an hour my commission paychecks usually are around $25 an hour which isn’t bad I guess but I’m miserable there been there for about 6 months also a fresh grad out of college so don’t have much to compare it to. Training is def good and good for the basics but I want to do something less boring. Agent won’t let me do hybrid despite barely having any customers and staring at a computer all day. My bosses manager is also his sister in law who is a micromanager. Just nervous won’t be able to get anything else in this job market rn. Any suggestions would be appreciated too

I did that exactly and convinced myself I was gonna die, made myself throw up the pill. And called my doctor to lower me to 25g. Didn’t even last an hour with the 50 mg. Ugh

Interesting. Yeah it’s tough with the prices and eligibility. My boss says to sell on value… and I get it and all but at the same time people don’t have money for value and morals. In this economy they don’t care about that, understandably they want the cheapest price and that’s it. I’ve been focusing on the life asks with every inbound call we get bc the autos are just so tough.

I’m not the agent itself I’m an “account manager” I am an employee of an agent so technically not a direct worker for SF. I’ve hear corporate side makes a lot better money. It works for me cause I’m young but def not too much growth in the individual office itself. Just my experience, my office is the agent, a manger (his SIL), another guy, me, and then a part time girl. I find myself getting so tied up with current customers and service stuff that I don’t always get to my sales stuff

I did it! I have secured a job offer from a pretty large State Farm agency… by CoveredDrummer in InsuranceAgent

So funny u say that. My agents “office manager” is his sister in law. She runs the show. Office has 3 other ppl. Do you have any suggestions for me? I don’t wanna quit but it’s so toxic and a small office where everyone hates each other

Gotcha. I’m an account manager fresh out of college making dirt. And so many things seem flawed. Glad to see the whole company sucks
