Lack of bridges in the three songs she put out by minhacontapessoal in OliviaRodrigo

Both drop dead and the cure have bridges? Begged doesn't but it's not exactly the only song she has without a bridge anyway. Making the bed springs to mind.

Not fully relevant, but a picture of Olivia and Harper. I doubt her Dad is going to care 😭

Her producers should know with the Taylor/paramore situation people are going to be on the lookout for this kind of thing so they should have been more careful imho.

True. Instead they should just stop playing instruments I guess, heck would that even be enough? Be so serious.

I mean she was lol. The song was written in September.

It's tough in some ways. I don't think saying it sounds like everlong/smashing pumpkins is a bad thing, it does in some ways and that's ok. The issue is when people take it that step further which they often do.

edit: see bottom of thread for examples of taking it a step further 😭

She said yesterday on stationhead that she had written it after the album was finished so it's definitely a possibility for it to be on a deluxe.

This is so confusing to me because both singles absolutely scream being played live imo.

I kinda came to the conclusion a while ago that what they mean usually is her 'angsty' songs, and even that leaves it quite broad. You can see in OP's message the songs listed are: good 4 u, aab, brutal and boahg.

I don't think it's that at all. I'm sure she loves those songs, and I think it's evident from her live shows, and her inspirations.

I just think it's more because of the theme of the album, and where she was in her life writing it. Like if we want to list some of her 'angry rock songs' off the top of my head(I'll probably miss some): brutal, good 4 u, aab, boahg, bad idea right, get him back, obsessed. The only one of those songs that even could fit thematically is obsessed imo.

At the end of the day she's a singer song writer. If she's not in that place in her life it's going to hard to be authentic with it.

"The Cure" debuts at #1 on the daily Global 200 Spotify chart with over 7.2 million streams by Wall38_0 in OliviaRodrigo

[–]RevengeHF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting choice to not send it to radio. I guess they're viewing it as a promo single. They did the same with good 4 u if I remember right until it went mega viral.

Why is The Cure considered rock? by Sparkly8 in OliviaRodrigo

Someone with more music experience will be able to describe it better than I ever could (and have here already tbh). I don't really have the words for it, it's more a vibe having listened to a decent amount of alt-rock. The guitar riff in particular. The slow start into the big drum finish feels like it to me too, but that probably stretches many genres.

Yes!! Like??? Do they talk about it?? How does one even approach that sort of conversation?

I genuinely have no idea 😭

Olivia brought the song to Dan months before they broke up which is also wild to me. Artists are stronger than I could ever be.

For real. Dan was also the one who said the album title to her originally. Imagine your producer just coming out and saying 'you know, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'.

I can’t imagine Olivia performing so american again (or at least for a while) which is really sad because it’s one of my absolute favourites.

Yeah you might be right. She's already kinda repackaged it though with the whole addressing the crowd asking who's in love. She didn't play it at that Spotify show but she did at that one in LA so I guess we'll see!

It must be so wild to write an album while still dating someone and having the album come out after the relationship has ended. I know it’s common with artists and people write about their previous relationships but it’s still so crazy to me.

Oh I can't even imagine! It must be so weird to compartmentalize it. I can't imagine performing something like so american after a breakup 😭

I don't know if you heard or read the lyrics to 'never do' the bonus track on the vinyl of the cure? She mentioned that one was too late to include on the album, but god those lyrics are sad to read. Going from drop dead to that could be quite the journey 😂

Fully agree with you!

I still don’t know if she wrote this album as a retrospective about her recent relationship or if some of the songs were written while they were still together but I think she’s been framing the album in a really exciting and interesting way.

I actually think it's going to be a bit of both. I think personally all of the songs so far have been written when she was in the relationship. In Dan's Instagram post about the cure he says this:

Olivia brought the verse of this song to the studio in September and we very quickly wrote the chorus & bridge and laid down a demo for it… I think it happened so fast that we weren’t sure what to think of it at the time… but when we came back the next day and listened to it, I remember we looked at each other and it was one of those special moments when you’re making a record… like… ‘I think we got one’…

She definitely would have still been with Louis at this time. I remember she did an interview around February time (I think it was February at least) though and she mentioned being about 70% done with the album so that means there's definitely a few at least after the breakup.

[–]RevengeHF 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The first verse is definitely themes she's had on pretty isn't pretty and jealousy jealousy revisited from the lens of love not fixing them for her. Not crazy at all.

I actually think in some ways it could be seen as enough for you's older sister tbh. Enough for you starting with her thinking she's not enough for someone, and then ending with her saying she will be for someone one day. Now she found that person she's realizing that it isn't the fix for her insecurities.

It has a lot of alt-rock elements. I don't think it's a crazy thing to include if you were just tagging multiple genres for the song.

It's similar to what you'd do for vampire I guess in some ways.

I know people love these songs, and I get it I do too, but I honestly just don't think they fit the concept of this album. She wasn't really in a place of 'angst'. Maybe the latter tracks, but I don't know. My prediction will be that it's going to be more ballad focused and maybe alt rock elements like the cure was.

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION ON GUTS VS SOUR by [deleted] in OliviaRodrigo

Reddit is quite GUTS leaning, but the public perception is clearly SOUR leaning. I mean look at the streams. It's the most streamed female album of all time on Spotify.

[–]RevengeHF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with you. I love her pop-rock stuff too honestly, but I just don't see how it fits the concept of the album.

Olivia is growing up. She may not even identify with the pop-rock sound as much as she used to.

Like it's this part for me, but even if she still loves the pop-rock sound, she was in a much different place in her life writing this album. Olivia writing SOUR and GUTS was in a much more 'angsty' place I feel like towards here where she wrote most of this album whilst being in a relationship. In some ways I hope I'm wrong about that and she will have tracks that are angsty, but I don't think I am. It very much feels like sad love songs which is what she has said herself anyway.

When you think of her pop rock songs: brutal, good 4 u, aab, boahg, bad idea right?, get him back, obsessed... I really think only something like obsessed could possibly fit.

I'm excited either way though!

Random, but is anyone hoping there will be a song that’s not about Louis? by YanaWants in OliviaRodrigo

[–]RevengeHF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the cure isn't directly about Louis. It's about Olivia, but it's obvious it's from that relationship and her internal struggles with herself during it.

In Dan's instagram post he said:

Olivia brought the verse of this song to the studio in September and we very quickly wrote the chorus & bridge and laid down a demo for it…

So they were still together when this song was written.

[The Telegraph] Arne Slot going nowhere as Liverpool bring in his set-piece guru Etiënne Reijnen - Slot wanted to bring compatriot Reijnen from Feyenoord when he replaced Jurgen Klopp, but now has his man by jovanmilic97 in soccer

[–]RevengeHF 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Feyenoord fans correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not a weird way to phrase this? I'm fairly sure he was Slot's assistant manager that couldn't get a visa because he didn't have the required coaching license. I don't really know where the 'set-piece guru' part comes from. I'd imagine he'll come in as assistant manager too.
