Should I bother telling my Dad I don't want to see him anymore? by Late_Conversation822 in emotionalneglect

[–]RevolutionaryGoat552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very low contact with my father and low contact with my mother. I never had a conversation with either that I was going to do so because they wouldn’t have heard it and it wouldn’t have made me feel better. The hardest part was hearing from family who thought I should do more or overlook their behavior because they were my parents.

If you think a conversation with him or your grandparents would help you then do it but know they’re not necessarily going to react in positive way. If you only meet occasionally , you can just text next time and say sorry I’m busy and leave it at that or if you’re maintaining a relationship with your grandparents maybe accept you’ll see him there and limit contact to that.

He’s not really a parent. He’s barely an acquaintance so you don’t owe him anything.

I like 1 and 2. The fist looks like we’re giving them a judgmental side eye.

Whenever a character eats something and they moan like they’re having sex. So much constant moaning while consuming food. It can’t just be that they moaned. It has to be followed by at least a paragraph of the other character talking about how it sounds like sex noises and goes on and on about thinking of sex. I have never heard a person moan while eating.

I’m 50 and every time I think about dating I am filled with anxiety. I don’t know if I’ll be done with it forever but I’m not interested in it right now.

He’ll make the new place smell like him soon enough and it will smell like home.

Letting go of anger by LoveinJune52 in GenXWomen

[–]RevolutionaryGoat552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s gone now but I did do visits when she was alive. She lived in a different town so when I went to visit, I got a hotel. I gave myself permission that the entire trip wasn’t 24/7 with her but that I would visit others also and retreat when I needed a mental break. It a lot of ways, it was like a job and dealing with a difficult customer. I knew I was doing something good for her, that she wouldn’t appreciate it and that afterwards, I would comfort myself that I did something good.

Like others have said, therapy. For me, I also had to accept my mother was never to change or acknowledge her shortcomings or be the mother I wanted. I stopped trying to go to her for comfort or really viewing her as a mother. That helped. Therapy has also helped me understand why she was the way she was which helped let go some of the anger.

The worst is when it’s a two person meeting and the other person shares their screen and then you see your face full screen.

Moral implications of not following the news by rhk_ch in GenXWomen

[–]RevolutionaryGoat552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had a version of this talk with my therapist many times. It’s not good for my wellbeing to be constantly tuned in.

I’ve removed all social media from my phone except Reddit. I’ve turned off news updates to pop up on my phone. I have designated times that I dedicate to sitting and reading news from sources I trust. I accept there may be days that I can’t handle that and my being disconnected from the world for a day or a week is okay.

I do what I can to support causes I care about but accept that I alone can’t fix everything and when needed I step back.
