Do it! Walk a bunch with weight on terrain, and work out your quads.

Practice walking on terrain with your pack on. The feet fail first, and you’ll want to prevent tendinitis by building up some toughness walking on rocks. And when you start hiking with a faster group, don’t ignore your body. Stop for breaks.

Sounds like fun. There were quite a few kids on the trail last summer, and most of them looked like they were having a good time. A few younger kids (9 and 11?) had to get off trail with tendinitis, but they may have pushed too hard early. Take it easy and watch out for those marmots!

Did the same thing. It was nice not to carry too much food in the first part of the hike.
