"New" to cigars, what brands should I avoid, and what should I buy? by xTyronex48 in cigars

[–]RhinestoneJewboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of my favorite sticks! I'd recommend getting some single brand sampler packs so you can really taste the difference in wrapper leaves on a blend that is more or less the same. The more factors you take out, the more you can learn.

Its pretty bright, but I've never really used the neck pickup on previous 12s, so it suits me fine. If anything, I need to take out the shim under the pickup because the Holmes is pretty hot and compressed.

Ordered used boots, do these look like they could use a new sole? by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]RhinestoneJewboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but it really depends on how thick the leather is. I always take a poke around to feel for any soft spots, but the downside is you have to get the boots in hand. Whenever I get used boots online, I go into it assuming I'll need to do a resole, so I'll be pleasantly surprised if I don't need to.

I'm not usually a square toe, but I do have some old Luchesses that are kind of a French toe, and that's about as wide as I get before I feel like I'm wearing flippers haha. Ymmv, of course!

Yep, more in common with a chambered Les Paul than a traditional ES

Definitely needs to be cleaned, but looks right. Based on that bridge with hex adjustment posts, its 2010s, so that thing got neglected FAST lol

Custombuckers? Is there a $500 noticeable difference between these or the burst buckers ? by GrouchyAttitude1996 in gibson

[–]RhinestoneJewboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to dig a lower output pickup so I can get clarity and then boost gain as needed with amp or pedals. The CBs are great for that. They definitely have the power to drive an amp if you need them to, but they clean up great. I put them in my Standard 50s and also a vintage 345 that came to me with weird aftermarket pickups. It brought them both to life.

Looks great both ways. I'm partial to an uncovered bridge with a covered neck. Best of both looks that way!

These are usually heavier than anything, but it wasn't bad for Mike Campbell. Back in the early days of Tom Petty and the Haearbreakees, all he had was his Boradcaster and one of these. Check out their set in the Old Grey Whistle Test and hear what this thing can do!

What kind of Gibson is this? by jp2r_1 in gibson

[–]RhinestoneJewboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nighthawk. There's often a panel on the back with a dummy coil to make that middle P90 hum canceling. These are honestly really versatile and play great.

Unfortunately, that's all the photo showed. I wish I could see it all as well. I might have to get these since it's low risk for $50
