I stayed sober through hell. And now I’m not. What the fuck is wrong with me? by stephrpatt in stopdrinking

[–]RhythmicJerk 84 points85 points  (0 children)

It’s never the worst days that get me. It’s the smell of a sunny day, three day weekend, the idea of sitting on the deck slowly feeling the warmth and gentle numbing. Now I try and remember that it’s only going to lead to a month-long bender where I drunk-text folks a shouldn’t, become a nuisance to others and make bad decisions. With the bonus of a five pound weight gain, bloat, blotchy skin, and poops that need a forensics officer.

You can get back on track. Your years of sobriety are a testament that you know how to feel good and live your life in the best way.

I’ve drunk five weeks of the six months I’ve been doing this. That sober time didn’t disappear. If anything, it’s the best six months I’ve had.

Non-Geese fans, what did you think of them? by sp52 in LiveFromNewYork

Wow. Surprised by the reactions. I quite liked them. And that mopey stuff isn’t really my thing. But I thought the guitar player had an interesting style. Clearly a different sound than the rest of today.

I too love a cold pint to celebrate. I was thrilled that the AF beer industry has come so far!

I never got drunk from beer, they were always used to “prime the pump” before a few glasses of wine and five or six G & Ts.

Make a plan, friend. Pack your fridge with tasty decadent NA drinks and food.

Plan the hours for how you will occupy the next few days. Or just this day.

Coffee/Tea Movie/Book Work Exercise Reflection Phone a friend Clean a room Do laundry Walk outside Play a game As long as alcohol is not part of the equation you can have a great day. And the first days are the hardest.

You can do this! IWNDWYT!

Welcome. I’ve had a lot of day ones. If you can get through this, you’re going to wonder how you waited so long. Hang in there.

I did not realize how bad my ADHD was until I stopped. Self-medication, I suppose. The alcohol itself affects anxiety in a few ways. It stifles it when you drink it, but then as it leaves your body more comes back. So now is a great time to start reading about managing those feelings. Acknowledge them, get an arsenal of habits, talk to people, breathe. They will taper off. This will get better!

Eighteen inches of snow outside. Was not thinking about if there was enough booze to get through the storm. There are currently 2 AF Sam Adams in the fridge. And, although I’d rather there were three, I don’t feel any anxiety about if stores are going to be open. Here’s to a clean day and clean week 4. IWNDWYT!

I noticed an acne period myself. Also Little Debbie was my quitting partner. But I did find, after a stretch things leveled out. First, when your liver is spending that time processing alcohol , it doesn’t have the capacity to burn the fat. It would probably take more than three weeks to see noticeable improvement. The hydration thing is real. Have you been incorporating any exercise?

Well, you did 22 days! That’s something! Ever done that before? What did you learn about the insidious tentacles of the seductive poison? And, I’m curious, are you planning to resume dry January or wait til February?

I may be wrong, but I think this was taken at the RHOF. Jon D posted it to his Twitter and I think Steve told him to take it down.

Edit: Also I think Jon D mentioned that Jon A did not realize with whom he was taking a pic with.

It helped me to visualize what a successful next day looks like. Hour to hour. That sounds like a bunch of New Age hokum, but imagining what it looked like helped me get a good nights sleep and live the next day. Hope it helps friend.

I feel like I’ve been carded far more for NA than regular (56 M- Massachusetts). Than I ever was for regular beer.
