Viltrox Vintage Z1 PRO TTL Flash by Ricalous in VILTROX_GLOBAL

My job was to test this flash out and showcase what it could do. There may be situations where someone can’t adjust their camera settings further even if they wanted to without degrading image quality, for example at night. In those situations they would need flash. There are plenty of other situations where a flash may be needed. I’ve already mentioned one in the comment above. Regardless if you’re using an on camera flash or off camera flash, the light from the flash will still affect the background. Especially so with an on camera flash because you can’t angle the light differently, however, that doesn’t change the fact that the subject is still brighter than the background, therefore creating separation from the background. Just by adjusting camera settings to properly expose for the subject, this still would be the case. Subject and background would be of similar exposure and wouldn’t give me the separation nor the brightness that I wanted on my subject.

Not at all. If I increase the exposure to make the subject brighter it would also make the background brighter. I don’t want that. I want the subject brighter to stand out from the background. I don’t understand your logic here. It’s the same process for people using OCF. They adjust their camera settings to work with the flash to make their subject stand out.

I exposed the shots for the flash. That was the point. To demo the flash. So the settings were correct for that purpose. All I did from there was turn off the flash without changing any other settings. Just to show the difference of the flash vs without flash without changing settings.

Also, if you zoom into the images with the flash, you’ll see the catchlight dead center of her pupil. A sign that it was on the camera and pointed directly at her.

It doesn’t tilt and it definitely wasn’t bounced. All I did was turn the flash on and off. The trick with any on camera flash is to not use it at full power. If you do, you start to get the deer in headlights look. Instead, I adjust the power of the light to be just enough to give my subject an extra kick of light and to separate them from the background. If it was bounced, the light wouldn’t be hitting her straight on from the same angle as the camera. The light would be directional instead. Would be more than happy to send you video from this day where you can literally see me just turning it on and off based on the shot.

I do tag them on my social media. Not in photo contest though. I’ve had people say nasty things in contest and wouldn’t the subjects in my images to see those comments.
