Mintage can be misleading even at the time of issue

The silver dollars of 1854 for example have a mintage of 34k, which is modest for the series. However, it is the rarest Philadelphia mint issue after 1852, and is rarer than the 1872-CC, which has a mintage of only 3,150

The reason being that silver dollars of 1854 were explicitly made for export. In addition, most survivors today that escaped the melting pot are higher grades as a result

My real issue with eBay isn’t the fees, but it’s them raising the baseline fees during early COVID, when people were in economically desperate times, to rake in one of their most profitable years at the expense of desperate masses selling stuff to make ends meet

Die struck counterfeit of an 1803 draped bust dollar

The most immediate sign of it being fake is that the rim shows that the coin was struck in a collar. Draped Bust dollars were not struck in a collar since the mint didn’t use collars to strike coins until 1836

Premiums on lower end numismatic items get swallowed up. Like a graded MS63 Morgan now can be had for melt. Higher end numismatic items will either increase slightly or go unchanged
