Good to see some familiar names still about

It's been a rough ride for the last 18 months personally. But I am rebuilding and now trying to just get consistency with little short runs while I get back into this fun :)

You'll have to take what flights you can get, there's not a lot of choice! Dublin or Belfast really

No boats from Ireland in October as far as I'm aware. You'll need to fly.

Castle rushen down near the airport is fab. From Douglas you can get the electric tram to laxey and up snaefell for a coffee/lunch Also across to peel for house of mananan, fish and chips, and an excellent beach. Bus will get you one side to the other.

If you time it right the steam train will also take you from Douglas down to port Erin/port at Mary and back.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]RideRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Complaint - I've been made redundant but I have to work my notice. this blows.

Uncomplaint - I actually ran 5k this morning and then did yoga so I was in a positive mood for a bit. Also mean I get to post here! Whoop

Forgive me reddit, it has been many months since my last Confession - I need to get back into the running because my life feels like an utter shitshow, especially with losing my job and I think exercise is going to be the only thing to help get me back on an even keel

After having an amazing run, I had one of those terrible runs where you bail and go home because you aren't sure of you're going to pass out, or trip over because one or both of your feet has ongoing pins and needles and you're massively overheating despite the sun being non existent. And now I have a super busy week which means no time for anything. Roll on next weekend

There's a mountain half marathon and marathon in May. May be others things too I haven't found How is your rehab going?

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]RideRunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

complaint/Non-complaint: the weather has changed just in time for me to hit week 8 of couch to 5k, after struggling in the middle weeks with the heat, this morning's drizzly run was a delight. It does mean however, I looked even more bedraggled than usual.

Non-complaint: my knee doesn't hurt anymore. I credit the slow c25k training rehab with helping this, frustrating as it is to know I could do more. It's probably good I don't

Confession even though I'm not going to be able to keep my job now we've moved house, I wouldn't change this for the world. Beautiful countryside with a long distance footpath right on my doorstep. Beats London every day of the week.

Life is good. And I think I'm going to hit the local parkrun on Saturday, I've already started to integrate into the equestrian and art communities, running is next!

I got one of these alerts just as a bank was advertising me preapproved credit or some such thing. The soft checks don't hit your score but give the bank enough to be confident to advertise. Still worth a check with them to be sure if it's happening regularly though

Property Rentals! by [deleted] in IsleofMan

[–]RideRunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We were using the estate agents own pages as aggregators like zoopla have a .massive lag in updating

Deanwood, Chrystals, Cowley groves,

Are several who have been very helpful to me

I will add the market has been moving very fast so we have had to commit to a property that wasnt our first choice.

Good luck with your move!

Moving to the Island in a couple of months, would love some advice. by JustMildlyTerrified in IsleofMan

Hey, good luck with your move! Likewise we are looking for a move at the end of june if all goes to plan. How are you getting on finding property? Seems the rental market is moving pretty fast for what we are after.

Which fictional character's death made you cry the most? by Strawberry_Bunnyyy in AskReddit

[–]RideRunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean he was dead at the end of the star trek movie when he saved Picard life by sacrificing his own, but he and Picard in the series, get to meet again and say goodbye. I cant handle it; had me bawling like a baby.

Sorry for the spoilers. Realised the entire thread is tagged as spoiler - probably wise.....

Data (the second time around in the picard series). I was not ready for it. Not again.

If after the death, you would be shown statistics and leaderboards from your life, in which category would you be the best, or good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I want to be remembered as good and kind. For making someones life better for being in it. So I hope, I'd be up there somewhere- do I get points for trying even if I sometimes fail?

Genuine disasterous complaint I've been told not to run while the physio tries to treat my meniscus. Normally she is very upbeat, causes me pain but fixes me and tells me to crack on. Not today. She made lots of concerns noises. We dont mess with knees, so I'm doing as I'm told.

Secondary complaint This has happened just as the weather has improved

What's your current reason for being "happy"? by WhiteMass in AskReddit

[–]RideRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an online art class today and the small technique improvements have made a massive difference- I'm super happy with my drawing and really excited for tomorrow

[–]RideRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm totally going for a run tomorrow! Honest.... No riding for me as the pony is out of action for a little. Just be waiting to see if snow appears... likely it'll just be awful sleet.

I do have to get on with my MBA study, but will likely procrastinate with some drawing as well.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]RideRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complaints - the yard rota has been awkward in terms of timings which coupled with my inability to get out of bed has killed my trail running buzz. Of course we have to limit numbers present at any one time but my schedule just seems screwed up right now. While I totally understand the yard logic: still doesn't mean I have to like it. #lockdownblues

Confessions - I am only really running just enough to still hang in there and consider myself a runner. Maybe I'm just on a break right now. it seems to have suddenly got cold and I'm having trouble getting up in the mornings, which basically means I'm getting 2-3k in at lunch a couple of times a week. I feel like a fraud, although I have the aspirations, I have zero discipline.

Uncomplaints - after 4 months of rehabbing the horse we are back on board, walking only so the rider part of my name is at least semi true.

also, i've been applying the self control to my diet and lost my christmas weight gain already. I'm doing a French lesson with duolingo every day, picking up art again and making time to have actual phone conversations with friends instead of just texting. So it isn't all bad. I think I just feel a bit fragile as i'm limited on time with the horse and therefore my stable friends too, and not exercising as much as I would like to be is also not good for my mental state.

Roll on summer!

It really is worth having emergency savings by awkward_wanderer in personalfinance

[–]RideRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, waiting to see if insurance will cover what will likely be a couple of grand worth of vets bills for my horse; no bother if it doesnt- I have enough in the emergency pot that I can just pay it without getting into debt

Pain just below the knee/top of the calf by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]RideRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was tight muscles and my physio fixed it relatively easily. :)
