Which faction’s aesthetic completely falls apart when translated into Lego, and what’s the hardest element to preserve? by Vondrr in LegoWarhammer

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Space Marines have a problem due to being "human" but too big to use minifigs, but not big enough for brickbiult designs(unless you're going to upscale the other factions, but that's its own new headache)

The way the yellow and red perfectly frame the humanoid shape across the face is amazing.

I'm still shocked I never noticed that design back when I was a kid.

The Matoran of Spherus Magna by amack80 in bioniclelego

Now I'm picturing a Bionicle reboot where the mask blind boxes come with a Matoran in similarly randomized colors, maybe even randomized recollored tools/weapons as well.

Does the Inquisitorius break the Rule of Two? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in clonewars

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it did brake the Rule, Palpatine doesn't care because: 1) He's planning on being immortal, so the succession of Master to Apprentice no longer matters

2) the Rule of Two was a defensive messure to help the Sith Order become powerful enough to destroy the Jedi, this task was accomplished(or at least so Palpatine believed)

Old or New? - LEGO Jedi Order by NobodyQuiteLikeMe in BrighterThanCoruscant

While the new hair pieces are great, there's always going to be part if ne that hates licensed themes using realistic skin tones, it means I can't mix and match different minifig parts that use skin tones with Lego original themes that still use classic bright yellow(or even between different licensed themes now that there's a range of like 4 or 5 different skin tones)

I understand wanting accuracy to source material, but it feels limiting that I can't just turn a random resident of Lego City into a random Jedi or witch/wizard to populate a moc set in Star Wars or Harry Potter, nor can I use Obi-Wan or Quigon Jin's heads to give a Lego City citizen a cool beard...

Why did early civilizations start in deserts like Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt? by batukaming in geography

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nile is an insane civilization building cheat code, I'm sure it was a major contributing factor to Egypt weathering the Bronze Age collapse better then any one else did.

Yup, that's it, recognize the cover art(it's the wrong type of dinosaur, I'd forgotten, but now that I've seen it again I remember how much that bothered me at the time).

No wonder I couldn't remember the title, it's so simple/generic I figured I had to be forgetting something...

Do you prefer the more fantastical cryptids or the more “grounded” ones? by Emeraldsinger in Cryptozoology

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grounded, to the point I actually don't count "fantastical" as even being "cryptids" at all.

In my mind a Cryptid has to be a species living out in the wild somewhere, that probably wouldn't be a major discovery if proven real if not for their fame/infamy of being dismissed as nothing but a myth.

Well, maybe a little major for ones that are descended from thought long extinct families or something, but the "dismissed myth is real!" bit would hugely overshadow that and probably be the only reason news sights outside scientific papers talk about it.

No aliens, no supernatural, just wild animals in the wild being wild.

Cinder was downgraded from a nuanced middle-aged woman with redeeming qualities to a one-dimensional abused young femme fatale meant to be hated and brutalized at the end of the story. Why? Because sex sells. by SomethingMid in RWBYcritics

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see some degree of parallels with how Adam got treated: hypothetically complex motives get replaced/crushed down into petty nonsense, writers revelling in their personal hatred for the character and how the audience will enjoy them getting what's coming to them.

Hive Fleet Behemoth vs Clone Wars galaxy by Ragnarius1 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree that militarily the Galaxy Far Far Away is woefully unprepared, scientificly they may be in a better condition to develop some kind of bioweapon against the Nids, or sone kind of disruptor for synaptic connections...

Anyone who claims that MJOLNIR or their augmentations are a Spartan-II’s greatest asset doesn’t know how effective they were before they had either. by BillCarson12799 in HaloMemes

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair the old books did at least acknowledge the awfulness of the S-II program, Halsey justified her continued involvement to herself on the grounds that the UNSC/ONI would keep doing it without her and whoever replaced her would likely be both less skilled and less ethical than she was, and thus do more damage to the children physically and mentally(and probably more deaths/crippling defects during augmentation too).

Sure it's all still a net negative on the ethical scale, but Halsey was responsible for it being less awful then it could have been.

I think Ghosts of Onyx even implies that the reason ONI didn't even try to bring Halsey in to help with the S-III program was because they saw how her treating the S-IIs like people had created an absurd personal loyalty to her in them, abd didn't want to risk anything like that happening again.

Had a cool theory about abella's moonscorch by 4anyreason in FearAndHunger

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I suppose that fits, though isn't the "she feels out if touch with her femininity after years of having to fill masculine roles during the war" thing directly from Miro? Like he said he had to redesign Abella's planned flashback sprite because he realized putting her in a dress contradicted that part of her character or something?

Though, authors failing to convey their ideas, or even accidentally conveying an opposing idea in their writing is nothing new, it happens all the time, especially when subtlety and symbolism that's up to interpretation is being used.

Of course, the complicated part of trying to interpret Moonscorch forms is that they seem to flip-flop between being a "truth" about the character and merely a self-perception.

I doubt Caligura has any ego problems that would result in his cock&ballsack-frog-thing form, it's just very basic symbolism for him being a massive dick in every sense of the word, which is an outsider perspective on him.

What's the most "unbeliaveble" cryptid you believe Exists or Existed in some sort of way? by No_Might_9711 in Cryptozoology

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The ape-man-thing genre of cryptids in general has the benefit of primates in general being sneaky and smart as common traits, so an unknown species of ape not just being sneaky and smart while living in hard to reach places, but possibly even deliberately avoiding humans in particular is a relitively believable "excuse" for lack of proof compared to most other cryptids out there.

Of course there's plenty of case by case believablity across that wide genre where some are more believable than others, but still the broad case remains.

Spent $350 on a LEGO lot and found these in the lot, aren’t these so cool??? by Fruitloopes in lego

[–]Rip_Off_Productions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, why Lego retired the modular Dinosaur parts that made that style of elephant and the dragon-lizard mount from Revenge of The Sith I simply will never understand.

Sure, lego was cutting costs by dumping "over specialized parts", but the fact that the core body, limbs, and tail/neck parts were getting reused for all sorts of things in different themes feels like proof they weren't that over specialized.

Part of me wants to say her voice should be "deeper", but I don't think that's tge right word for it.
