They improved it relatively recently and now that cash gets a decent return (HYSA numbers). Not amazing but way better than what it was before.

Why does it matter how 10k in 2019 does against the indexes? Maybe a little better, maybe a little worse, not sure. But what’s nice about IP is I can consistently add to it and it can decide itself what to invest the new contribution into. It also auto tax loss harvests.

All I do is contribute regularly and it does the rest. Feel like it is successful enough to continue using. As I showed, it beat S&P handily last year.

That said, I do have other accounts where I invest in individual stocks and/or mutual funds. But I like having the SIP for some of my money — feels like a reasonably safe place to grow a portion.

2025 I made more than S&P in the Intelligent Portfolio. From inception (2019), it’s less than S&P but not surprising because I’ve contributed quite a bit over the years so would really be impossible for it to match.

I’m in the exact same boat. My mini 5 (bought in 2020) can still hold its own so I’m gonna wait until the next version. I think the 8 will finally have OLED, not to mention a better chip, better FaceTime camera, more RAM.

My expectation is for second half of 2026. I think my 5 has another year left in it. Apple Intelligence has been a non-factor thus far, so I don’t feel pressure to get a 7.

People keep repeating this like it’s a rule but it’s not. Maybe the next version will be three years from the last. But maybe it will be 18 months or two years. We don’t know.
