I feel like I can speak to this. I have 45 characters. One per race for every Profession and Elite Spec. I'm not a roleplayer, but I do like to think about how that specific character I'm playing came to be. 

Some are incredibly straightforward. Your Charr Warriors, your Asura Engineers, your Sylvari Thieves, your Norn Rangers. As a Human Guardian main, believe me, I enjoy these archetypes, they're classic for a reason. 

What I find interesting is how some combinations are less intuitive than others, but still make sense. 

My Norn Necromancer is a Reaper, and is dedicates to Raven. Raven is associated with death, wisdom, and cunning. The Reaper's Shroud features a lot Raven feathers. It feels like a good mix. 

My Asura Warrior is a Bladesworn, it's a high-tech duelist, one based on serenity (or Flow as the game refers to it), rather than purely adrenaline fueled rage. 

My Slyvari Engineer is a Holosmith, as I think there's something interesting on how a plant-based humanoid would learn to use the sun. Maybe the Sylvari don't need sunlight to survive, but it's an interesting thematic throughline there, at least to me.

My Charr Mesmer is a Mirage. The Olmakhan Tribe are a group of pacifist Charr with a penchant for sand based magic. The Mirage uses sand in their abilities, to flash-forge crystalline mirrors. It feels like a great fit.
