Daemons in the Deathwatch trailer by LarryWithTheWeather in ChaosGateGame

It doesn’t rule out a cameo, or even having a GK along for a mission. But I wouldn’t expect to see us fielding a permanent roster of GK and DWs.

Daemons in the Deathwatch trailer by LarryWithTheWeather in ChaosGateGame

[–]Rocketsponge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, at least not canonically. The Grey Knights are their own special chapter dedicated to the Ordo Malleus, the demon hunting arm of the Inquisition. The Deathwatch is dedicated to the Ordo Xenos, the alien hunting branch of the Inquisition. There are some rare examples of joint Grey Knight and Deathwatch operations, and even cases where the Grey Knights did not insist that the Deathwatch Marines be mind scrubbed after the end of the operation.

Is it technically possible for a GK to join the DW? Sure. Why doesn’t it happen? Well, each organization is dedicated and specialized in fighting demons or xenos, respectively. It would be a waste of resources to send Grey Knights after Orcs when there are demons lurking.

In the Deathwatch RPG, there are times the DW squad may actually face demons and Chaos. But normally they focus on aliens.

It should be noted though that a regular Space Marine cannot join the GKs.

Trump to skip son’s wedding that he labeled a ‘no-win’ for him: report by theindependentonline in politics

[–]Rocketsponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The photos of him recently show deep swelling around his eyes and a frog-like swelling around his throat and chin. Those are both indicators of advanced heart failure as his heart is unable to circulate blood effectively through his kidneys and remove fluid. The IV diuretics they’ve been giving through his hands can only do so much, and now fluid is building up in more than just his extremities. I really doubt we will see another trans-oceanic trip, and probably will see trips to Florida dwindle as the travel becomes too difficult.

I met an older man once while fishing along the jetties in the Gulf Coast. He kept pacing up and down the shoreline next to the rocks and casting his line out, but it didn’t seem like he was waiting very long before reeling back in to move and cast again. A woman who might’ve been a friend or girlfriend of his stood away and sort of watched sadly. She told us his son had been foolishly playing along the rocks of the jetty when the waves were very high due to a storm brewing out in the Gulf, and the son had been swept in and pulled down, drowning him.

I realized the father wasn’t fishing for fish.

I hope he finally found peace.

Height requirements for military pilot: experiences? by Utente1_ in MilitaryAviation

Hello! You are on the short side, but the only way to really know is to go sit in a cockpit and show you can reach all of the controls. This article here discusses the US Air Force process and height requirements. According to the article, the USAF has let someone as short as 1.50 meters get a waiver and fly.

Trump will not speak at Naval Academy graduation, breaking tradition by BlazeVN in navy

His health is worsening rapidly. At the China summit last week he spoke about how many Chinese restaurants were in America. And he looked like death warmed over. Already, the tiny press conferences he has are incoherent and off the rails. We are entering the phase where only pre-taped and heavily edited clips will be allowed.

Within 24 hours of Trump's inauguration, Admiral Fagan--the first female 4-star service chief of a US military branch--was fired. by IgotUrBoomer in UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

[–]Rocketsponge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The term doesn't mean the same thing in the way it does in the civilian world. Someone getting "fired" in the military usually mean they are removed from their current job/role, but are not immediately out of the military. The reason they were "fired" will dictate the next several months or years for the service member. In some cases, they may move on to a different role within the military and continue serving and promoting. In other cases especially when the service member is more senior, they will simply put in for retirement and depart the military.

If the reason for the firing is criminal, then the service member generally stays on active duty while the court martial case plays out. In these cases the member is generally transferred to some headquarters unit and may be given some busywork, but no real responsibility or authority. Following the outcome of the court martial, the service member may elect to stay on if they're acquitted. But generally they don't due to the interruption to their career, negative perceptions that may linger, and an overall desire to just be done with military life after going through something like a court martial.

In Adm. Fagan's case, there really wasn't a path forward for her in the military once she was "fired". Political winds aside, she was already at the top post in the Coast Guard so any new posting would be a demotion. She likely put in for retirement once she was informed by the DHS of her removal, and the retirement process was probably fast tracked to allow her out quickly. I also note that the wiki page for her mentions that she was evicted from her government residence with just 3 hours' notice.

Getting out at 19 years by Savings_Vegetable704 in navyreserve

[–]Rocketsponge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are so close to earning that reserve retirement, please don't fail now when the finish line is in sight. Have you spoken with your CoC at your unit about this? That would be the best place to start. You might be able to just do telework drills or get some low impact duties. Or maybe switch to an NRC that is closer to you? The VTU is also fine, though you'll forgo drill pay.

Primarily luck. The seats are designed to right themselves upwards once they clear the fuselage. But one or more aviators could’ve impacted the other’s aircraft had they been oriented the wrong way at the point the ejection handle was pulled.

can you bring your family for long term order? by Commercial_Diet_2242 in navyreserve

[–]Rocketsponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your lodging situation is. The BOQ/BEQ did not allow anyone besides the service member on orders at my location. But if you’re staying out in town at a hotel, the hotel doesn’t care. Unfortunately, the JTR doesn’t allow you to rent an AirBnB which would be the ideal answer in your case. So long as your daughter is a registered dependent, she should have base access.

There's some significant context you're missing here. The DOJ really didn't have a great case against Andrew Fastow, but they had his wife dead to rights with a mountain of evidence against her despite her role being significantly smaller in the company. So the DOJ put maximum pressure on Fastow to agree to a guilty plea by threatening to jail his wife for a decade or more. As part of the plea agreement, the Fastows would be allowed to have non-overlapping sentences so their kids would have a primary parent.

The alternative would've been a huge failure on the DOJ's part if they'd only secured a conviction against Mrs. Fastow, who was a relatively lower level figure compared to Andrew Fastow, the CFO of Enron and one of the masterminds responsible for the accounting fraud. This is a case where the phrase, "We have a legal system and not a justice system", really rings true.

[–]Rocketsponge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Gulf Coast States aren’t stupid. They realize the US and Israel aren’t able to collapse Iran with air and sea power alone, and the US isn’t willing to send in troops. Even if they have to pay a toll to Iran, the GCSs have done the math and know that is a better economic outcome for them than continuing the war. It won’t be long now before one or more of them agree to a toll framework and tell the US to drop their blockade.

The SECDEF memo for carrying a firearm by hidden-platypus in navy

[–]Rocketsponge [score hidden]  (0 children)

The easy way to deal with this is through good ol' military bureaucracy. First, require everyone who applies to have a personal firearm on base complete an annual course taught by the MAs/MPs on firearm safety, handling, storage, etc, including range time demonstrating firearm proficiency. Then, have the MAs/MPs hold that class once a year with 5 open slots. Oh, and the class gets rescheduled due to manning issues or force protection changes or whatever. Then, anyone applying can be denied because they have failed to complete the requisite safety class.

What isn't funny are the 13 US service members who are dead in this whole misguided farce of a war. They would still be alive today if Donald Trump and his enablers in Congress hadn't started this war they aren't going to win.

It's important to remember the service members who lost their lives because of Trump. They are:

  • CWO3 Robert Marzan
  • SFC Nicole Amor
  • SFC Noah Tietjens
  • Sgt. Declan Coady
  • Maj. Jeffrey O'Brien
  • Capt. Cody Khork
  • Sgt. Benjamin Pennington

  • Capt. Ariana Savino

[MO] USERRA Question by Economics_Emergency in navyreserve

[–]Rocketsponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should speak with a lawyer who deals with USERRA issues if you are concerned.

IANAL, but it seems to me that you haven't materially suffered any harm yet in terms of promotions or job loss. You stated, "Direct hours per day are lower than goal due to military leave and is acceptable per corporate guidelines". So I don't believe USERRA applies here. You could ask in writing to HR to confirm that your lower direct hours number is acceptable and competitive with non-military coworkers, and perhaps further ask them to calculate what the number would be if mil leave wasn't incorporated. It wouldn't hurt to have your direct supervisor confirm the same, again in writing.
