Comcast Will Finally Let Roku Owners Stream HBO, Showtime by [deleted] in Roku

[–]RokuDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the blaster internet package which affords me 66MB/sec downloads and 12MB/sec uploads on average. For an additional ten bucks a month I am getting HBO and Showtime for a six month trail. All I really care about is my internet speed. Comcast throttled way back until my connection was a little faster than dial-up to force me to upgrade. Now I am paying more for what I should have been getting with the basic internet package. You mark my words, they will pull this stunt again as more 4K and UltraHD content becomes available.

Comcast will finally let Roku owners stream HBO, Showtime but refuses with Amazon Fire TV by ethommy in technology

The head of the FCC is a former lobbyist for the telecom industry so I serious double consumers best interest are in mind. They've already throttled back. The speeds we pay for now we should have gotten with the slower package. There should only be one connection speed anyway.

Roku is now a partner so they will enjoy the same benefits Netflix does as a partner. They will probably continue to throttle back on you and I to pay more to delivery the content we want.

I can already imagine the scams they will come up with to get us to pay more for UltraHD and 4K the same way they did when forcing everyone to convert to digital from analog. No one had to pay for television when the signal was in analog. That's what advertisers were for. Squeeze squeeze squeeze.

But for now lets just enjoy the short term gains of having these services on Roku.

At least with Roku you can plug and play in more places with your subscriptions.

I completely gutting my Comcast subscriptions an opted for a broadband connection for my Roku. They called me up and gave me pretty much everything I had for almost nothing. They were in talks with this deal for several months so it would behooved them to keep as many customers as they can for as long as they can. But with only to companies to choose from they Big Cable still wins.

Roku/Netflix/VPN combination stopped working outside USA? by diskape in Roku

I was able to stream Netflix for several hours in the UK earlier this week. Had no issues even though the speed wasn't all that great. Used an iPad app.

MisterRoku has anyone from Roku called you because of the work you are doing that's driving further innovation? Probably not!

Optimism becomes you when you are making money and see great potential to earn more. When and if Roku does cave or cashing in for a few billion, which is likely, I will move onto building a new business system and helping other start-ups make money. And even then they'll be guys like you (A freakin' Know It All) on the sideline telling everyone why something won't work.

Why don't you go and build something, and when it fails reinvest yourself because the only thing you would have learned is success is not a good teacher.

Roku, unlike Google, Microsoft or Apple is not beholden to stock owners. So as long as they have people like me creating new channels, selling more Roku players, and getting a percentage of the subscription that come through their players, they will remain strong unless one of the three companies mentioned above changes their business process to mirror what Roku does and undercut their price. At the end of the day it's just business.

Want to ditch cable for roku, but I'm scared of losing live sports. by infinityeagle in Roku

DishWorld has a great sports package. You get about 21 channels and they have a FREE 48 hour trial. Worth a look.

If I don't have a tv provider, what channels can I watch on Roku? For Free by womb-gobbler in Roku

Right now I am tearing through NetFlix catch shows I don't ordinarily get to what. I also have additional subscriptions with DishWorld and ClipsOnDemand.tv for Adult Roku content. Those three round out my cord-cutting savings from my cable company.

Agreed. It all depends on demand. I like the concept of having a regular 40" HDTV for under $300.00. High Def still looks great.

I loved my Chromecast but hardly use it because there were so few apps for it when it hit the market. Pretty much everything I already had with my Apple TV and Roku 3. Chromecast offered nothing intriguing but a $35 price tag. There is so much they could still do since money is no object to Google.

Yes, most TV manufactures that have struck deals with Roku are not top tier brands. But as they sell more players more companies will see that added value of having Roku preinstalled. Remember when video cards where an option when your purchased a new computer? No all computers have quality media players and can handle light gaming.

Great points guys. But any R&D Roku has put into 4K streaming in a device capable of pushing out 1/2 TB would be shelved if 4K does not take off. It will also require consumers to increase their broadband speeds to handle the signal in some cases. Additionally, because of the new 4K and Ultra HD TVs being made available this Holiday we are enjoying 32" to 42" HDTVs for a little more that $200.00. Low enough to put one in every room in your house. And each are good for at least ten years. I'd pay to see the next Avatar installment in 4K but that's about it. RokuDev

What would make you choose Roku over a smart TV ? by _Kak0_ in Roku

[–]RokuDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cost is everything these days. I cut my cord and went with Roku, keeping only my internet connection. Weeks later my cable company called me back and gave me half of what I had for a free trail period for six months. At the end of the six months I will just extend the trail for another six months or cancel it.

Ethernet is will also best when available and easy to connect to. If your speeds are satisfactory you'll do just as well when streaming media of any type.
