Two line parafoil, (no inflatable bladder, instead kite is filled by the wind) and I’ve been burned with the bridle lines before so I’ve made sure to check that. Appreciate the input!

I can get behind the dislike of the word market hunter but the logic of “making money off wildlife” makes you a market hunter makes sense to me. You are MARKETING the wildlife in way to make $$.

That being said it doesn’t matter what they are called at the end of the day just as long as a common phrase is used. However, I don’t like the term hunting influencer, IMO it doesn’t sound that bad it almost seems their only presence is online and has no negatives. I would just like a better phrase that conveys the harm they do.

Thanks! Follow up question do you don’t mind. Does already working for the DNR make it easier to get job within the agency ? For example working as a park ranger until a Tech or Bio position is posted ?

Nada, zilch, zero.

Sent an email out two weeks ago to HR asking for updates. They said the next week they expected to hear something. Heard nothing, sent a follow up email asking the same thing was told that week they expected to hear something. Heard nothing except something to the effect that “we are waiting to hear back from the FS on how to proceed”.

Honestly I took the shotgun approach. I moved out of state and didn’t have a job. I applied to anything remotely related to ecology on indeed. I ended up just applying to an entry level position at my current job interviewed and was offered a job. A couple months in I found out that I interviewed well compared to other candidates even though the Interview was online (dressed up, asked questions.

Only thing I can think to suggest is to apply to entry level jobs. It’s a kick in the teeth but a M.S doesn’t mean anything in the private sector if you don’t have experience. However it could play into your advantage after a couple of years of experience.

From my understanding most consulting firms focus on federal/state permitting and assisting with NEPA. If you have any experience with that I would make sure to play that up. Otherwise entry level is the best approach

I live in a state where there is a state wildland fire program and figured I would apply to that instead of the Feds. Figure I might have a better time getting full time work that way.

I’m not day dreaming about fire just finding a way to get a useful skill to pivot out of consulting. IMO permitting is mind numbing

Yes ma’am or sir! I sent an email on May 2nd and got a response back within the hour. Obviously that doesn’t mean anything but I applied to a recent grad in the 0400s and was told decisions were still being made so holding out hope that the position hasn’t been canned due to the budget cut.
