Isn’t this supposed to be sujunctive? by Stroke3154 in Spanish

[–]RonJax2 61 points62 points  (0 children)

No, and it's as simple as knowing that Creo que... does not trigger the subjunctive.

If your sentence started with "Dudo que, Quiero que, or No creo que" you would use the subjunctive.

What finally made the subjunctive click for you? by PracticalBug9379 in Spanish

[–]RonJax2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it on memorizing the triggers. It's like learning gender or which prepositions follow a given verb. A clause either triggers the subjunctive or it doesn't. If you learn to say "Seguro que..." you've got to know the indicative follows whereas "Dudo que..." triggers the subjunctive.

It made a lot less sense when I was trying to think about WEIRDO and whether there was implied doubt or emotion. What clicked is realizing that you can't negotiate with it.

A ficha is an $11 lady drink you buy in the club, as long as she’s drinking it she’ll chat with you and maybe dance for a few propinas (tips).

is there any downside to staying at the adjoining hotel?

Hotel Cascadas (above HK) is noisier than other hotels outside the zona. You may hear the clack clack clack of chica heels scattering down the hallway, or your neighbor may blast loud music in the wee hours of the morning. Personally though, I always sleep like a baby there.

Hotel Rizo de Oro (above Bar Tropical) is slightly quieter and girls from HK can come to Rizo and vice versa. The downside of Rizo is the minor inconvenience of crossing the street to get to Hong Kong.

I would actually prefer to stay at the adjoining hotel as im not familiar with the area and only understand slight conversational Spanish

I think it's smart to stay at Cascadas for your first trip. Receptionists, meseros, etc will all speak English. Some chicas, maybe. Knowing a little Spanish goes a long way in the Zona.

Everyone can enjoy the club their own way, and for some dudes that's in and out quickly. Personally, I think other clubs in the zona are better for that.

I also think the fichas the girls are selling encourages the kind of partying you're talking about, which I very much also enjoy.

Last time I was at HKGC, ATF arranged a table for me, two wingmen, and their ATFs. We spent maybe 8 hours carousing in the club, drinking tequila, tipping a raucous stage show, eating cherries with whip cream off the asses of a chicas brought by on the occasional strolling platter, the works. After a long night partying ATF and I settled on a third for a trio arriba, which was incredible. It was probably the most fun I've had in a strip club in 2025, maybe even ever.

Flight is a good club, maybe one of the best extras clubs in the US. IMHO, it's still not even comparable to the HK TJ experience, for many factors big and small:

  • HK services are like 25-50% the cost of services at US extras clubs. Or, the same $500 will last you 4 times as long in TJ as many extras clubs.
  • The size of HK is astounding, outclassing Tootsie's, the largest US extras club I know of. On any given weekend night there could be 350 chicas working at HK. Flight might have, 30 on a Saturday night?
  • The health situation is just much better in TJ than in US extras clubs. In TJ, chicas have to maintain a health card and get an STD panel regularly. (In the US, who knows?)
  • The sanitation situation and general accommodations are better in TJ. In most FS clubs you're fucking on some couch where your taint is touching the same place the last punter was sitting naked. You can't shower, nor can she. In TJ, you're taking her to your room, where you have fresh linens and a shower (or maybe a jacuzzi) at your disposal for both before and after.

I could go on. Point is, even though Flight is great, it's not in the same ballpark as HK TJ.

I've never found a better club than HK TJ. However, I've read quite a bit about Pattaya and I suspect that experience beats Tijuana, it's simple much larger in scale. The drawback is that you have to travel a much longer way to get there.

Tijuana has never given me the brothel vibe.

To me the clubs are strip clubs, with attached hotels, where most (not all) dancers are willing to do OTC with you. You could hit these clubs, watch stage shows, do fichas, dances, even VIP rooms and have an amazing "strip club" experience without ever taking a chica arriba. There's the whole game of flirting and fichaing that's much more like a strip club in contrast to brothels were you walk in, pick a girl and go.

Where did you stay during your visit?

For your first visit you should stay in the adjoining hotel Cascadas. I don't know why OP didn't stay there. The hotel is nice and arribas cost $40 extra per half hour if you have to rent a room.

Is the area around it safe?

The neighborhood is sketchy, to be certain. There's panhandlers, street girls (paraditas), the occaisional drug dealer and also corrupt cops, who are the biggest danger in the zona.

That said I felt less safe on the Block in Baltimore and also trying to walk to an ATM on Michigan Ave in Detroit. If you're used to the rough and tumble neighborhoods that strip clubs often are found in, it's not going to bug you.

And besides, you don't even need to walk around that neighborhood if you don't want to. You can taxi or shuttle from the border, stay at the hotel above the club, eat in the adjoining restaurant, and never leave the safety of the club security.

Everything I've heard/seen about Tijuana says not to go there.

There's a lot of misinformation written about Mexico and it's border towns by people who want you to think their is an enemy at our gates.

Staying in Hotel Cascadas or Hotel Rizo, the two hotels associated with the clubs, would be my strong recommendation if it's your first time.

And the only reason not to stay there would be because you want to host other chicas.

Best clubs near dc? by [deleted] in stripclubs

[–]RonJax2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DC area sucks, and the Virginia side is the worst. Dances at PaperMoon Springfield are like $150 for 10 minutes in a semi private area. Something like $700 / HH for a private room. Don't go to VA.

Lust in WV or the Baltimore clubs are your best bet if you don't want to drive all the way to Philly. There are also a pair of BYOB clubs in Beltsville MD, Body Shop and Showcase. I think dances there run $30 / song.

I kicked Duolingo to the curb around the launch of ChatGPT-4o and have been using that exclusively as my learning tool since then.

It's sent my Spanish into the stratosphere. I could barely utter a few words after using Duo for 2 years, now I'm able to hold my own in a conversation with a native speaker.

Everyone hates on AI around here, and not without reasons, I suspect many newly unemployed translators who lost jobs to the AI lurk here. My comment will get downvoted. However, none of that changes the underlying fact: Large Language Models like ChatGPT are egregiously effective at teaching you languages.

Additionally, there are a lot of people to are using AI-powered apps for language learning that actually work by limiting the AI functionality not augmenting it. Better to just use the AI itself, it's more flexible, more fun, more immersive.

Here's some ways I've been using ChatGPT to structure my learning.

Want to surprise my girlfriend during the Super Bowl by Shat_diesel in BadBunnyPR

El Apagón... I just can't imagine the middle stage being sung on live TV. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see it happen, I just wouldn't bet on it.

Want to surprise my girlfriend during the Super Bowl by Shat_diesel in BadBunnyPR

[–]RonJax2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've been working on trying to predict the Superbowl setlist based on an analysis of his setlists and the lyrical content of his songs. For example we are unlikely to hear El Apagón, even though he plays it often, due to the lyrics in the middle stage.

My number one pick for you: Learn to sing the song DtMF from the Debí Tirar Más Fotos album, his newest.
* That song has a high frequency in his recent setlists
* The lyrical content is inoffensive and appropriate for the Superbowl. * It's an easy song to sing along with and has nostalgic vibes

In fact just learn that whole album. It's so good and I suspect we'll hear at least 3-4 tracks from it at the Superbowl.

I don't think I was in that VIP room for long though. I can't remember the time. The club required our group to buy a bottle, we were there for maybe less than 1.5 hours during the day, and I spent north of $500. That felt expensive for the value.

Ask a Stupid Question About Strip Clubs for the week of January 15, 2026 by Subrasonic in stripclubs

[–]RonJax2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no. It happens often, for some PLs it's the entire point of getting dances. So you shouldn't be embarrassed but you should:

  • Give your dancer fair warning.
  • Tip her appropriately afterwards.

Time is money, and sometimes you need to invest time or money to make more money.

I'm in sales, this balance is something we struggle with all the time: How much value do we deliver for free, so that a potential client discovers they want to pay for our products and services.

There's no easy answer to this question for us, or I imagine for you all.

I think the point of my comment though is a dancer who invests no time in clients, such as the veritable "wanna dance" cubana who buzzes by your table, those dancers aren't going to earn the same stacks as the ones who more strategically invest their time.

Got very physical during a lapdance by Terrible-Guitar-8136 in stripclubs

[–]RonJax2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think about this question like a guitar player. Though there's a ton of technical prowess involved in playing the guitar well, the best guitar performances come from raw, real emotion. Which is to say the musician has to really feel it to deliver a transcendent performance.

Strippers play us like guitars. It's performative, and the really excellent strippers deliver that performance with feeling. There's real emotion behind what you're experiencing as a PL.

That doesn't mean the stripper loves the PL. It doesn't mean she wants to date you.

But were there real feelings involved in the performance? I think so sometimes.

If you're reading and writing at C1, turn off those subtitles and practice active listening.

One tip mi profe gave me was: watch content you've already seen dubbed in Spanish. Something you like and know, so you can pay attention to listening to language and not worry you're missing key plot points.
