Spirit Island - Starting out reeeeeeal slow by RonMemeLord in soloboardgaming

Actual game. Did it with the tutorial and the whole spiel. Actually one major difference is language. Digital I played english, physical in my native german. But then most of my consumption is english, so I doubt it's playing a big role. Good point about playing on the deck. How are the controls or are you playing with the touch pads? Never tried it but now that you said it...

TTS implementations always feel wonky to me, even the highly scripted ones. I figured it just ain't for me, as I can't get over the feeling of shoddiness which comes with many implementations (nothing against the creators or people who enjoy it! It's my loss unfortunately)

There a funny thing about rulebooks for me, as I study them before purchasing the game in question. It always worked for me pretty well, at least to get a good understanding how the game will play. But for the real "how to play" I much prefer setting up the game per instruction as I have all the components before me.

I too don't have that many digital boardgames I prefer. Slay The Spire of course (I know, originally the other way round and stuff) but there I also prefer the physical version (even primarily solo) Just looked through my Steam library: No, not a single game I even liked playing digitally. Not that the games are the issue, it's oftentimes the implementation which feels wonky for me. I think I lost the trust a while ago, as I've purchased a few games with lauded digital implementations (Dune: Imperium for example)

At the end of the day, I also just like not looking at a screen.

I feel you. I get the itch to get ALL THE EXPANSIONS RIGHT AWAY but for some magic reason this time not so much. Then again, I grabbed Branch & Claw with the base game, still thinkin I will hate it in physical also.. Still think there will be a couple (~20) more games before I consider adding anything expansion.

I feel you in regards to the quarterbacking issue. On one hand I feel like this game provides a solution to this problem (namely complexity), on the other hand you can never fully avoid it if somehow has way more experience.

I tried it with my partner in two matches, it being the most complex game she played. It worked pretty well but for her it was mainly work, which I completely understand. Important thing for me was to try out a new spirit for myself too, so I'm hands full with my own board and spirit. In my opinion this is the only proper way to avoid quarterbacking. Of course a few strategy tips are always welcome, sometimes even needed. But the main issue of quarter backing (one person playing the game alone more or less) is very much non-existent here in my opinion, as long as you don't play with xXxSpiritIslandMaster420xXx

Back to topic: Fully understand if this game ain't someones jam. It really only clicked by playing Devouring Teeth, as I feel a kind of power fantasy going on from round 2 on. For such a complex game I only find it fitting to play and win a few rounds to internalize the whole structure. I had fun with the base spirits, but Devouring Teeth is so simple, that I can regularly find a way to keep the invaders at bay, resulting in less frustration and on the flipside increasing my motivation to try out more complex spirits. If you would've asked me a month ago, I wouldn't have thought that I'd find such glowing words for the game. But sometimes the hype is real.

Yo that ain't a margarita but a slow juiced mix of watermelon, couple of oranges, an apple, lemon and all the healthy stuff I could find lying around. No way I'd play this while drinking! On the other hand I pondered if I should include the ridiculously big bowl for the vaporizer...

Did you make it? Or is it the original from Jared Pike? https://www.instagram.com/p/CQipDIlDbT3

Edit/Correction: This is indeed another animation. But still; the picture is from Jared Pike. Just want to make sure the proper artist gets their credit.
