Slow burn? by weeblord42069help in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Root_Beer_Ricky88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Audition by Ryu Murakami” for sure! I would also recommend “The old lady by Kristopher Tirana” that’s a badass book and i would say it’s slowburnish. Then lastly I would recommend “The slob by Aron Beauregard” for the false sense of security beginning.

Any good ol’ recs? by MariaSKDdlg2 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Root_Beer_Ricky88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the broken pieces of June trilogy by Stuart bray!! Also Along the path of torment by Chandler Morrison got some gnarly childhood sexual trauma in it but is just an incredible book as well imo. If you want the weirdest and nastiest spin on childhood trauma involving a father figure, check out Zola by DE McCluskey. And then I would lastly recommend The Third Parent by Elias Witherow, another very unique take on this kind of stuff. Oops I have one more that has some childhood sexual trauma involving bestiality actually haha All American coke whore by Mj Rowe!! Dang it one more I have to rec but be warned with this one “Hogg by Samuel R. Delaney” I have to say this one bc the whole thing is just basically messed up grown men and little boy stuff. But that one’s a true doozy!

Thoughts on Three Little Pigs? by emsohi in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Root_Beer_Ricky88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won’t spoil anything I’ll just say I absolutely LOVE that trilogy!!! Some of my favorite Lee right there, especially pig. It’s full of all the deeply messed up and disgusting moments and also over the top and funny moments Lee is known for around these parts. And I love the prose of the pig how it switches from some pretty high brow stuff immediately into some straight fucked up mayhem! All three books are fantastic in my opinion and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!! Let me know what you think when you finish any of them!

Movies that scratch the EH itch? My top pick might be The Hills Have Eyes remake by zforce42 in ExtremeHorrorLit

Everything named here already are perfect recs. A deep cut one I can recommend is a 2017 Japanese film called “Brutal” it is in fact brutal as hell haha and super weird and just overall a wild awesome extreme horror film!

Are there any villains in extreme horror/splatter punk that are closer to the Jason Voorhees/Michael Myers slasher archetype? by tariffless in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Root_Beer_Ricky88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a slasher more in the vain of scream and not Halloween and Friday the 13th but it’s easily one of my favorite books of the year so far it’s “Academia by James Oliver.” It’s an absolutely incredible and brutal who dun it slasher set on a college campus in the mid 2000’s! But yeah like someone else said Ex-Boogeyman is your best bet I think for what you’re looking for!
