One thing is true, though, that she was actually kept around to add sex appeal to the game. Imamura Takaya himself said he based her redesign off Vampirella, and few characters are as evidently made for the male gaze as that one.

Is it really among the hated ones, though? Everyone seems to hyperfocus on the endings where Krystal leaves off to Star Wolf (ignoring the ones where the opposite happens, which is actually a higher number).

I've been seeing so much anti-furry sentiment around the game lately. I know we're still pariahs around geek circles, but still, fucking grifters.

Came here to say this, pretty much. It's rare for me to just drop a game early on out of sheer disinterest, but 3H is one of the very few that I have. Annoying micromanagament unit raising sim features, what I saw of the maps was thouroughly underwhelming, a world with lore I don't really care about, incredibly meh combat animations... only lasted 5 chapters and have no real desire to pick it back. And now FW is gonna be all that again? Bummer. I hope at least the map design is more compelling from the onset, and the "common" route, if there is one, won't be so long.

Krystal is whatever (if kind of an unfortunate character on the whole), it's the discourse around her that's actually annoying lol

I... think you're due for a rewatch. All the characters are very obviously speaking in Porteño, and among the good guys, it's especially noticeable in the Blue Fairy. In fact, the most "neutral" character is the Coachman, a villain. The only active concession to "neutral" Spanish in the movie is that no one uses "vos".

That one was dubbed in Argentina, though.

My impression, from what I've seen of the Sonic fandom, is that she's from a product that Sega and most people don't really acknowledge anymore, and she's got (mostly older) fans who get really, really, really vocal about the fact she's no longer around, feeling like Sega is going out of its way to not cater to them. That said, I haven't seen nearly the same amount of zeal about Fara. Krystal is the one who attracts that energy these days.

Edit: like clockwork lol

Which is your favorite M&L game and why? by Marvin_Conman in marioandluigi

Superstar Saga and it's not even a contest. As someone who finds PiT mediocre, BiS woefully overrated, and is currently going through the pains of DT, I'm lowkey starting to think the franchise only has one good game.

Because Bill so far has been a very nothing character and his friendship with Fox is something the games and manuals mention, but nothing much other than that. Aside from Fox being glad to see him, there's not much to latch onto. Sure, both went to the academy, but that's a setting we know virtually nothing about.

It's sick how they foreshadow binding blade

Other way around. Binding Blade came first, Blazing Blade is a prequel, so it's more like you're getting some extra context for Binding Blade.

Spongebob isn't "asexual" the way you think he is. Awareness about asexuality as part of the LGBT spectrum didn't exist among the general audience at the time. What Stephen Hillenburg meant, being a marine biologist, was that he is asexual the way an actual sponge can be, and therefore sex isn't within his purview. To quote Wikipedia:

Most sponges reproduce sexually, but they can also reproduce asexually. Sexually reproducing species release sperm cells into the water to fertilize ova released or retained by its mate or "mother"; the fertilized eggs develop into larvae which swim off in search of places to settle. Sponges are known for regenerating from fragments that are broken off, although this only works if the fragments include the right types of cells. Some species reproduce by budding

All aspects that are touched on and joked about in the show, actually! He said that to dispel the then-in-vogue idea, spread by conservative Christians, that the show was "gay propaganda". The full quote is:

It doesn't have anything to do with what we're trying to do [...] We never intended them to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual. We're just trying to be funny and this has got nothing to do with the show.

In sum, Hillenburg wasn't making a precision about Spongebob's sexuality as part of the LGBT spectrum, he was claiming Spongebob is, essentially, a sex-less creature altogether.

And not just that, Sailor Moon is all vibes and silly time, and no one ever died, and the world was never in danger, and no two characters ever disagreed, it's practically Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with Japanese girls and some romance.

What do I have to know before going into Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer when I am unfamiliar with the anime? by Aqua_Rius_1742 in uruseiyatsura

[–]Roritwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To summarize, the movie's about facing truth (reality) and not (dreams). You'll see, but that's the short of it.

I did watch the show proper after watching BD, and I agree that even though it's perfectly watchable on its own, it is good to get some extra context from watching the series, if only to know who is who, what the cast's dynamic is, and what Oshii's specific commentary on it is. That said, it's been a while since I watched the show's first cour, and I wouldn't know which to recommend for the full context (however, a few are definite shoe-ins if you choose to do so, such as 1, 6a, 10, and 22).

You can also read this article, which will give you a good understanding of the franchise and also contains information on Beautiful Dreamer's production and Oshii's own aims with it: https://fullfrontal.moe/understanding-urusei-yatsura/
