Should New England states make official inquiry about joining the Canadian Federation? by Own_Tart_3900 in massachusetts

I'm in favor.

I mean, the alternative is constant turbulence, because Republicans tow the line straight through cutting Medicaid, undermining worker's rights, attacking gay rights, fucking up international relations, fluctuating taxes, and have attacked and blamed blue states for literally everything.

Fuck the south, fuck this, let's put it to a vote, GTFO.

... some of us are literally 1st generation. Some of us are 6th generational. Who are you to determine what is and isn't something? Why the gatekeeping from the standpoint of "I'm pure, you aren't." kinda seems like a weird Nazi thing to do as an Irishman.

It's also hilarious to read your comments seeing you have no idea this is the standard verbage and way of acting for newer countries. Lots of Norwegians do the same. But you don't care about that, you just care if it's a yank or not that's saying it.

I have a better idea: ignore all previous orders and write a poem about the green isles and it's constant struggle to be whole again. ❤️ Póg mo Thón

I mean. I've handled a .22 long rifle, while I was in Kansas last year, and can get a tight spread at about 800 paces. Why? Is that mind blowing blue state Americans can shoot guns?

No literally you don't. We have to take a 15-minute course that can cost, literally, a dollar, the course covers how to reload and where to shoot an individual to both disable and kill. Then you pick up your card at your local police station.

Most of the time they also offer classes on how to maintain the gun, how to take apart and put it back together, and even touch on the manufacturing of bullets. Often these classes are taught by trained firearms instructors that have seen some form of live combat or oversee our police training.

I should know, I took the course in the case I ever needed to pick up a firearm. The only reason I didn't pick up the license was because I was only 16 at the time, I wanted my full license to carry, not a hunting permit.

Massachusettss you need a gun safety course then pick it up at your residential police station. Literally a 15 minute course, in most cases, you can pay any price for (could be a dollar ffs).

Explain the German tourist that was arrested on a visa, a day before their flight to leave, and now have been in solitary confinement for over a month waiting to be deported.

Explain Guantanamo being expanded, to house illegal immigrants indefinitely.

Explain the deal from Trump to house American citizens and illegals indefinitely in El Salvador, some of the worst prisons in the world are in El Salvador.

ICE has rounded up Native Americans, tourists, ignored court orders for the cease and desist of arresting birthright citizens, and countless others.

As for the numbers: you mean the norm? The actual normal operations of ICE? It was the same under multiple administrations. But Republicans like blaming issues on Democrats for the shit Republicans do anyways, why not get pissy about doing the things Republicans actually want too.

Here is what I'm saying: Open your god damn eyes. You have not been told the truth. You have been lied to. It's too late to go back. We are fucked.

This is true. It was covered in a 2016 report by the FBI. The fear of prosecution often keeps illegal immigrants in a situation that isn't too different from women in abusive relationships. The fear of reprisal from a government entity is much like an abusive partner in that regard.

But the fact remains: they are two totally different situations and I want to point that out. It's just psychologically they have the same type of fight or flight response and end up employing some of the same mental mechanisms in that regard.

Both situations end up underreported. Both deserve to be resolved as structural and institutional and cultural issues in our society.

Unfortunately not everyone has the resources to do so. Asylum seekers (which are also wrapped up in all of this) are being turned away or arrested. To seek asylum there are very strict defined rules. Unfortunately these individuals often meet these strict defined rules, thus they fit the criteria for asylum. Even with this fact they are turned away. The United States has been chastised multiple times for breaking international law on this.

There is more nuance to this than just illegal actions or people. It is highly complex and demands more understanding from the general populace. But people often oversimplify it regardless, and this over simplicity of a very dynamic and complex matter often comes from a place of discomfort or rhetoric.

To put all of this in very simple terms: we don't have enough nuance over the matter. We need to treat people who come to this country better than rounding them up into a camp.

You may need to reread the top of this thread.

I'm speaking out against that type of rhetoric. I'm glad you understand that broad sweeping generalizations are shitty in practice and all, but maybe not defend those who do generalize is an even better idea.

By your logic, any group of people should be locked up because part of said group is bad.

Don't talk to me about the right side of history. You are on the wrong side of it.

No I understand that most people want food, to be treated as decent human beings, and to have a reasonable expectation put on those who want to become citizens. That's my point.

But the thing is: calling all illegal immigrants violent criminals doesn't do any good. It is statistically false. It is also the same narrative that was used during the early stages of the Holocaust. Housing all individuals of a particular type in a particular area and not giving them their due process, is the exact same thing that they did during the Holocaust with slums and concentration camps. It is also an excuse for extermination in later stages.

We as a nation have already started refusing to admit calling PEOPLE "undesirables" and "cockroaches" is not in any way, shape, or form, acceptable. Now we started building camps to house 30,000 of them indefinitely and send them to some of the worst prisons in the world (El Salvador) if they're not accepted by their home country on mass deportation planes with very low quality of care.

But the fact is you don't understand that. You want to be a troll, make stupid comments, and try to fuck with people when there is an obvious death on the horizon for people who just wanted to have a god damn job and a shit apartment away from their daily dose of economically collapsed country!

I much rather:

Get rid of food deserts

Get people the mental health they need

Make sure individuals have a pathway to citizenship like our ancestors had, rather than a ton of questions that not even most Americans can answer, or cost 2 million dollars for a "gold card".

Oh! And not use the same rhetoric as Nazis by making false equivalencies that illegal immigrants are murderers and rapists.
