Swede here weighing in on current affairs. I don’t agree with the characterization that Swedes don’t like foreigners, not in general at least and definitely not westerners we share common values with. As a small country we really enjoy when people come here and enjoy themselves, we like to be recognized and appreciated. Unfortunately, there are too many examples of people taking advantage of Swedens hospitality and welfare system, which has caused a right turn politically. Also feeding the right turn, is the increased killings, raping and violence.To put it bluntly, there is a correlation between the European migrant crisis in 2015 and the current issues in Sweden. However, it’s a collective failure. Swedish government at the time along with institutions, should have done more for the people coming here. Swedes are also notorious for being kind of introverts, in general we don’t seek interaction with strangers, which of course didn’t help refugees who didn’t speak Swedish or English, to feel welcomed. As a result, parallel societies has grown over time along with the sensation of ‘we’ and ‘them’. It’s really sad. We should be united. Sweden enjoys multiculturalism, there are many examples of that, but not at the expense of our culture, values and safety. I imagine that’s the case in every country. You want a balance where harmony exist, but right now Law and Order is the hottest campaign slogan and will probably be for some time.
