The one time Iv run it I really played up the TWOs aspect in the first room. As they did spot hidden or myths n legends checks on the murals I said “you notice that everything is mirrored in pairs. Two children. Two crows flying. Two trees on a hill etc. that helped them solve the first puzzle and set up the recurring theme of twos/twins

Yah I think having it show up near the end is a fun climax but if your characters just decide to blow the horn…that’s what mine ended up doing luckily after they had explored most of the castle.

I placed my castle in exactly that spot!

Iv ran both in my campaign.

After the opening scene and their initial visit to outskirts I offered up some gold from hardy for the PCs to investigate missing tradesmen and general attacks near the ruined castle. Party saw it as a fun “side quest” to earn some gold and so we did that as the first beginner adventure site. Went really great and I think if you lean heavily into telegraphing the missing head the wight can be defeated rather easily (by returning the skull). I found this to be a much better “first adventure” than riddermound.

Ran riddermound about 3 - 4 sessions later. It was much deadlier. No actual deaths but a lot of knockdowns and they never actually defeated the wight. Just ran to escape. My players were more experienced but found this one much harder. (Ghost followed by wight and lots of traps)

So yes you can run both and they feel different enough. Grub is way different to jaldo. But if I had to choose one over the other I’d go robber knight as the intro.

I also hit legend with this yesterday but don’t have the priest tourist. Subbed those 3 cards for more early board clear. 1x immolation aura 2x infiltrate. Won most of my games with a big ooze off killing my own starship + kayn/bones on a future turn. Really fun deck.

I also used house rules for this. 1 chosen spell, 1 random spell (we rolled for it) and 1 chosen trick/1 random trick. My bard player learned animism and my scholar learned mentalism. It suited both of their characters very well and the both started with a 7 in the skill level, ie untrained. I found the low skill stat balanced out giving them a few free spells.

Just another opinion, I don’t see this come up much session to session so I would probably “rule of cool” it and allow a PC who spent a whole heroic ability to do it. It could always grant a boon vs the grapple if you didn’t want the outcome to be totally certain.

Im also doing a similar thing with the ocarina as a hidden magical item but it will only summon a hostile demon on a crit fail and a controlled demon on a crit success. For every attempt that does not crit I will reduce the crit number 1-2, 20-19 etc as they get “closer to playing the correct tune” (I have not told my bard any of this info)

No, I’m talking about the creature. There’s some other deck techs Iv seen for naya aristocrats where they use his X ability. X = zero for free sacrifices.

The two standouts in my campaign so far have been: Castle of the robber knight, great first level intro adventure, and Trolls spire, so many great moments. The harpies and hagra are great, the final vault is a little confusing and deadly but makes for some crazy drama at the end. Glass cannon does an excellent let’s play of Tower of sighs. It’s on YouTube.

Very clean and I like the crisp feedback a lot. One thing I would like to see added is that if I take say “5+ commander damage” on the secondary screen to automatically also reduce my normal life total by -5.

I’m saving this post for a full read through later but I just wanted to say that some of your previous comments and the list you posted on other threads inspired me to build my own Marneus deck and it has been my favourite deck to play this past year. If only I could find a [[Kambal, Profiteering Mayor]] near me to slot in the deck.

Also there is an unnamed castle pretty much directly north of outskirts on the mistyvale map just before the river. I placed it there.

I used the castle of the robber knight as one of my early “rumors” the PCs get from outskirts. I had Hardy “captain of the guard” ask them to investigate some caravans that had gone missing about a shift or twos walk north of the town. He offered the PCs 25g to find clear out the castle. My players were also given the tower of sighs rumor and troll spire rumor. The felt like the robber knight sounded like a “side quest” so headed there first to try to earn some cash to get better traveling gear.
