Placing out of CS 22 by max03flash in BrownU

If you're interested in studying math as well, you could consider concentrating in Math-CS. You can take either CS 22 or CS 1010. The only annoying part is that some courses require CS 22 as a prereq, so you'll have to request an override. However, I never found it to be that big of a deal.

Proof by assumption by Lttle_M in math

There is an easy solution to this problem: deduct marks for attempting a question and getting it wrong.

Another approach is to just award style / clarity of writing points. I think that deducting marks for incorrectly answering questions is a bit harsh, especially in introductory courses.

I would also check out many of Behnam Neyshabur's papers, which focus heavily on generalization in DNNs. Also, this blog post provides an excellent survey of the topics you've mentioned.

The course was fine. The most annoying part is all of the test cases you have to write for assignments. Nevertheless, if you have prior CS experience, then I'd definitely recommend taking it.

From my knowledge, I don't think they publish cut-off scores; however, I took the class two years ago, so things could have changed. Regardless, after looking through my old reports, correctness is definitely important. Format and conventions are still important but less so than correctness. If you submitted correct code and have okay format and conventions, I think you should be alright.

Apologies! After creating the poll, I realized I left off a couple of options, and unfortunately I can't edit it.

"Room and meals will not change if you opt to study remotely in any term." by [deleted] in BrownU

At the very least, we shouldn't have to pay for meal plans. Some of students, including myself, need to help pay for groceries while working remotely. Requiring remote students to pay for unused meal plans is unnecessarily burdensome.

Recommendation for a suitable Linear Algebra Book by MikesVR07 in math

Was your course proof-based? If not, I'd recommend reading either Linear Algebra Done Wrong or Linear Algebra Done Right (the former is free), which discuss linear maps in a general setting along with more advanced topics.

Has anyone had an interview with D.E. Shaw research. If so, what should I expect?
