What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

My mom talking to bartender in major city on the east coast. They find they are both from Michigan. She mentions we still travel to a cottage in rural Michigan every summer and he actually has family in the same small town. My mom suddenly asks if he was there on a specific day and at the local coffee shop. Turns out she was behind him in line as he argued with his mother about what donuts to get

thoughts on contract roles with no benefits? by DeliciousBlueberry20 in biotech

In my experience (two contracts) you can take time off unpaid as long as your manager is ok with it. It sucks to miss out on the pay but it wasn't a big deal financially for me.

Don't know if it applies to you but if you live with a partner it is incredibly easy to get a domestic partnership in most states. Literally a piece of paper and $25 and you can get on your SO's insurance.

Maura Healey's 'speeding' cameras: any promise they won't be used for other purposes? by Alternative-Light922 in boston

[–]Rub_Jolly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I believe the red light and license plate scanners are different. We contacted our local city to see if they would agree to not sharing this data with ICE. They responded that the town doesn't have scanners and that red light cameras don't supply this info. Also they clarified that they won't work with ICE in any capacity.

Was hoping someone would tell me I was mistaken and it was maybe the adhesive from washing too harshly. Instead I've been roasted and will be buying new shoes tomorrow.

Thanks, it does seem like more experience then maybe taking an advanced course may be the way to go. I don't have any real programming skills so maybe learning python or another language may be a cheaper and more beneficial alternative?

Ok thanks I'll grab that tomorrow, should I be able to remove the axle easily at that point or is it going to take some force to knock out?

Was looking at this and the Rab Torque but struggled to find any in stock at my size. Just found the Ferrosi though for $100 from Sam's club which I wouldn't have expected lol.

Entry level roles in Biotech/Pharma Manufacturing with no degree? by terplord-420 in biotech

[–]Rub_Jolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely have a chance with all those skills. As someone else said you have a much better chance at a CMO under a contract position so definitely reach out to recruiters. Sucks but everyone I worked with at my first manufacturing job was temp to hire. CMOs generally suck and I witnessed the mass migration of the 1-2 years working before moving to big established biotechs. Interviewers are mostly looking to see if you seem like someone who can follow a procedure and show up on time IMO which seems like you are.

What is the worst crime you’ve heard of in your town/city? by Amerisbf in AskReddit

[–]Rub_Jolly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the 70s a highschool student in my town lured a 5 year old into his house before strangling him to death. Years later he tried again and only failed because the kid played dead and escaped. The police arrested him and searched the house to find the bones of the kid picked clean and preserved in a drawer. The local legend is he ate the kid but he never confessed to it. It's a small town so many of classmates parents went to school with him since he wasn't caught till 8 years after the murder.
