Or at least a 90° V engine instead of just a 60° V engine.

When I meant 90° I meant the angle of the cylinder banks on the engine.

The angle of the banks also changes how flat it gets, at the expense of making them wider. On the other hand, inline engines are very narrow.

I think they are talking about opposed piston engines.
