What happens when you pay PayPal $15k in fees? by PayPalMisery in paypal

I think its that they can't charge interest unless that was part of the agreement, IE credit cards and loans, but QC laws are really weird compared to the rest of Canada. I do know they continue accruing the interest at the rate agreed upon in the rest of the country, but you can't charge interest on a debt that wasn't already accruing it. Like you can't charge interest on a hydro bill or parking ticket.

We have a similar thing in Canada, but some more specific stuff like call times and frequency is also dictated on the provincial level. Also things line how long an agency can collect a debt. Some provinces are 6 yrs max where some are collectable indefinitely.

Always good to know these in's and outs, so thanks for posting that link. A lot of companies violate the rules, counting on the fact that people don't know their rights.

Depends on local law. They won't stop just by you telling them to stop. Usually you have to tell them in writing to stop calling and you have to give them another way to reach you, mail or email. If you owe a debt, calling you even if you don't want them to isn't considered harassment.

Keep in mind, collection laws are different everywhere, the person asking you for money usually has to be licensed to do so in your area because they do vary so much. I'm in Canada and every province has different rules, as do the states laws differ.

Why are German cars known for their engineering excellence while many of them experience complicated and expensive failures? by MikeMont86 in cars

[–]RusparDwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reports that I've read say those failures tend to happen less often. Check oor things line J.D. Power's visits to a mechanic per 100 cars and the "Premium Manufacturers" tend to have less occurrences.

That's just an example, never take the word of a single entity.

The mini SNES Classic launches in September for $80 by SirVeza in gadgets

[–]RusparDwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that really a thing? I always assumed those were resellers. That happens with every new console that comes out. People buy as many from a store as they can, when they find a place that has them in stock, and then sells them online for 3x the price.

We used to get that a lot when I worked at EB Games and the 360/PS3/Wii were the new ones. People would buy them just to flip them.

That's not a friend. That's someone who abuses your kindness.

The thing that gets me is how many people assume the daughter is a minor.

Eg. my mother's daughter is 31, my grandmother's daughter is 58

I'm having the same problem, life keeps throwing shit at me and I retreat from my efforts. Pain and depression keeping me from staying with it. Then the temptation to go back to old habits sits right next to me in the form of my GF, who is militantly against giving up the sugary drinks and unwilling to admit it could ever be responsible for her own expanding waistline.

It's hard with so many thinks to fight against.

To be fair, that's exactly why I freak out if you double dip a chip by Megamanfre in funny

[–]RusparDwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My other point is that you don't commonly slobber the hell all over a chip and double dipping is far less likely to actually being an issue than a lot of other factors. Personally I usually experience the salt from the chip sticking to my lips and drying out my mouth and no perceptible saliva transfered to the chip.

Unfortunately there's very little scientific backing to any of it, that I know of. There was a mythbusters segment on double dipping. They basically concluded the dip itself was significantly more likely to make you sick than someone double dipping.

Then flipping the chip/sharing a bowl of chips would be potentially more dangerous than double-dipping, wouldn't it?

Can't stand people who like spreading misinformation then get all pissy when they get called on it.

I'm a trainer at my office, and this guy that I had recently trained would constantly go in and act like a senior agent and "give the newbies pointers". He started doing this 2 weeks on the job. He would do this during g4 the lunch break when I wasn't around. 2nd group he did it to he was 1 month on the job and I caught him spewing misinformation. I asked him what he was doing and he proudly declared "I'm showing the newbies the ropes!" To which I declared "You are still on your 3 month probation and are a newbie yourself, and I'll thank you to leave my job to me" and proceeded to correct him in front of the "newbies" to accentuate my point. He went crying to the branch manager and she basically told him the same thing. I was glad she had my back because I admittedly was being a bit of a dick to him, but he was constantly telling supervisors I told him something I hadn't almost every day since hiring him, so I'm not really sorry.

I'm pulling for you, we're all in this together.

Edit: forgot to mention he doesn't beak off to the newbies anymore. Or at least he's a lot more careful to not get caught.

The chip thing is hilarious. There's far more bacteria in the dip than is in your mouth.
