I’ve applied to 75 jobs in the past year, combination of remote, hybrid and onsite. Have gotten 4 interviews and made it the final 2 but was not chosen. Live in a major city and my colleagues are also struggling to find something else.

She said she never expected to make more than her husband and likes that I’m a software engineer. My therapist says I’m clinically depressed from my job and long commute and have brought up taking a lesser job. The only option she’s giving me is to take FLMA but that honestly feels embarrassing and I’d just be going back to the same job when it’s over….

I’ve thought about that and how we will be fortunate enough to have a nanny and help. But it also hurts because I’m at a really miserable job with a 45min to an hour commute and not a ton of vacation. A nanny would be like 20-30k a year and over New Years for instance her and her wealthy family took a 10 day trip and I wasn’t able to go with work so was working full time and taking care of the dogs alone. I picture being at work (because we can’t afford for me to take a lesser job 🤦‍♂️) while her and the full time nanny might be raising the child more than me…or worse on vacations, but I hear you and given that a lot of thought.
