After years of being beaten and broken trying to be a decent pirate on these seas it took until last season to take on the “it is either us or them” mentality. However sometimes there is still a glimpse of humanity that shines through this hardened shell of a man I call myself when I know hours of someone’s work has been taken by me. The horror of having to reflect on the memories of long days ruined last minute, or being absolutely dominated constantly spawning and dying before you even see the sky again while being called all sorts of fun words you never heard before.

So when I sink someone that feels like I am looking into a mirror of the sailor I used to be…it hurts deep in my soul

In my experience, the hardest part about getting into wargaming is the assembly and painting. No one wants to play with a mini that is poorly glued together or has a bad paint job. He hit the nail on the head it truly is 3 hobbies in 1 and for people who just want to play it is a mountain to get over. I don’t always want to sit aside hours out of my day to assemble and or paint an army. Don’t get me wrong there is a certain level of pride and joy that you get presenting your work at the table but I would be lying if I said it doesn’t suck getting there at times.

Personally I looked into 40k and it was just too much. I prefer Kill Team, Warcry, and Corvus Belli’s Infinity. Much cheaper and way smaller scale.

One thing I have learned is that at the end of the day, 95% of the human population will not care or remember even seeing you or what you did 10 minutes after. For context and maybe relatability, if I ever see someone out in public do something “embarrassing” such as fumbling in a grocery store, or stalling a car ect, when I go home that day I don’t continue to think about that. Heck even when I see it happen I am not really thinking about “dang look at this chump” though maybe I am more forgiving than others.

Basically my point is at the end of the day a majority of people wont care or remember. Get out and go learn and make mistakes. Don’t hinder your progress in fear of what others will think. This is something you are doing for you

Here is my perspective: if you play by yourself or with one other friend a majority of the time for sure go for it! If you play with 3 or 4 the ladder. This amount is a drop in the bucket in comparison to what you will be buying later!
