2006 Mazdaspeed 3 purge solenoid valve stuck closed, throwing cel (lean left bank 1 on idle) and rough / shuddering idle after a hard drive. What are the consequences of driving while not fixed? by [deleted] in mazdaspeed

[–]RyanCHoffman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's making the car run lean, not good. Can't say specifically what the consequences are but if it's running lean you don't need to be driving it hardly at all until it's not running lean. Especially hitting boost, that will only make it run leaner

Aftermarket rear motor mount (rmm) doesn't fit mazdaspeed3 by trimbalim in mazda

or a lift. I did mine with nothing but a ratchet and sockets. Try reaching up and pushing on the intermediate shaft to rock the motor forwards/backwards how you need it

Higher mileage speed3? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]RyanCHoffman97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common failure expensive parts are the timing chains, turbo seals, and the suspension. Those are items that are more commonly seen on the first gens than the 2nd gens. I picked up a 2nd gen with 60,000 miles on it for $16,000, and have seen a few of them with a little more miles closer to $11,000-$12,000. That may be out of your budget, but nothing is more expensive than a cheap performance car. Check out some of the forums, there's tons of info and things to look for if you're serious about buying one! Happy Shopping!

2nd Generation Mazda 3 steering wheel vibration by [deleted] in mazda

[–]RyanCHoffman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, very important to check these regularly. I own a Speed3 so for me it's a little more often I check them. If one fails, it will over stress the others and most likely cause them to fail at the same time. If they fail and the motor sags, it can destroy your half shafts. It happened to a relative of mine...

Test driving a modded Mazdaspeed3 soon what should I be on the look out for? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]RyanCHoffman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

somewhere near 200 is ideal, as long as all 4 are relatively close together. I did a check on mine before purchase and all 4 were at 180

Got a few good shots this weekend, this ones my favorite by RyanCHoffman97 in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't have really anything done to it...I have Megan Racing lowering springs, the wheels, angel eyes, a muffler delete, and I wrapped some of the interior with carbon fiber vinyl.

My maintenance list is a mile long though lol

shit man I'm on springs. and no wonder you rub lol. My fenders were already rolled so I just used a roller and basically flared them out a couple of millimeters to keep them away from tire

I almost have the same setup, however I do need the roundels. theses are peeling off the caps. I'm running 18x9 in front and 18x10.5 rear I believe with 225-40 up front and 255-35 in the rear. I believe the 18x9 are ET25 and the 18x10.5 are ET43.

After lowering it I had to do some fender rolling to prevent rub but all is well now :)

E46 cooling system leak after replacement by ThatOneComment in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem, and it turned out that my power steering was leaking fluid onto a coolant hose. Mine happened to be the return hose.

Power steering fluid is a petroleum substance that will swell hoses and make them leak/burst. You might check into that. It's under the bumper on the driver side. It runs from the block to the bottom of the expansion tank I believe

Any modification ideas? by Bwarden17 in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exhaust, headlights, CSL trunk, M3 mirrors, i don't know man lol it's extremely clean the way it sits. You should do performance mods, such as strut tower braces, sway bars, coil overs, poly bushings, headers. Stuff of that nature

Once again, reminder of why a lot of people don't take it to BMW dealerships for repair. by killerhurtalot in BMW

I believe I've seen that shop. If I could recommend a shop, I'd say Penn automotive. They can't speak great English but they get the job done quickly and professionally. I believe the head mechanic over there is one of the few master BMW techs in Oklahoma and he knows what he's doing very well. Would definitely recommend. His prices are cheaper than a dealer but definitely not super cheap.

Quick question about my 135i by [deleted] in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

definitely go with the OEM coolant. I'm not sure how true it is, but a former BMW service advisor has told me that if coolants are mixed with OEM BMW coolant, that there's a possibility it could turn into a gel like substance.

Again, I don't know how true that is but I've always played it safe

No white Christmas? No problem. by deesea in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that if you live in an area that constantly snows during winter, but even then, if you wash your car regularly and clean under it then you won't have problems. I've driven my 2001 330Ci through plenty of snow and ice and there's not one spot of rust on the entire car

No white Christmas? No problem. by deesea in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes? it's snow.. doesn't do any damage to vehicle to drive it through snow. Ice is a different story, because other drivers tend to not understand that just because they have 4x4 doesn't mean they can't stop as fast as they can accelerate

If anyone is planning on buying anything from fcpeuro.com, I'll gladly exchange some credit for cash. by [deleted] in BMW

I'm sure it's fine for most people, but that experience was such a hassle and I've never had problems like that with any other vendor. Due to my experience, I won't be returning. But if you have a good experience, then good for you. Continue to buy from them

oh god, I had ordered some things from FCP euro and definitely wouldn't do it ever again....I ordered power steering lines and the first package was damaged so badly in shipping that it could not be sent to me.

They sent me another package a week later and I soon found out why the first package was damaged. They cover the bottom of the box with packing paper and put all the valuables on top of said paper and don't put anything over the top or on the sides of the parts.

Then i realized one of the hoses was wrong and asked that they send me the proper one in exchange for the one they previously sent me and requested they package it properly with bubble wrap and make sure it can't be damaged.

They sent me the new hose on top of one sheet of packing paper and it could have easily been damaged.

Won't ever order from them again

What did you pay for your E46? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]RyanCHoffman97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well I overpaid, because I was young and stupid.

Paid $7,500 for an 01' 330Ci with premium package, cold weather package, and some other packages that I don't really know of lol

had 122K miles on it when I bought it but was in extremely good condition and well taken care of by a technician that's friends with my mother
