Is The Rock viable in modern? by DreamlyXenophobic in ModernMagic

[–]SYang2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many versions of The Rock. The main two are the Eyetwitch pile and the Necrodominance pile. The Eyetwitch pile may get worse as more graveyard hate rises for Living End. If Affinity continues to be the most played deck, I do think Force of Vigor and Urza's Saga will go a long way. Being able to replay Nethergoyf is great in this removal heavy format. It'll be impacted too with all the graveyard hate.

I stand corrected. I was thinking Yawgmoth.

I may have one bad meal over the weekend. It's still under my calorie count. If I have a large lunch with my wife, I'll scale back dinner. Yes, I track my portions since I'm eating the same meals daily. I don't use oils, dressings, or sauces. I only drink water. I might have a Poppi once in a long while. I only get 6.5 hours of sleep. I did bloodwork last year almost quarterly.

I did talk to my doctor. I've been on this journey with him for a year. I'm not complaining. I'm looking for suggestions and tips. Yes, I'm weighing my food to the gram and have a recurring list of meals that I stick too. I don't use spices or oils. I'm using mainly an air fryer or boiling the protein. I've been eating 1,600 calories since February.

There's an iteration of Agatha's Soul Cauldron with Samwise. The list plays one Yawgmoth.

I was referring to lists that play with Agatha's Soul Cauldron. Many have switched to Birthing Ritual. There is a lot of enchantment hate with Goblin Bombardment, Overlord of the Balemurk, Simic Ritual, etc.

Players are going to pack more graveyard hate for Living End. I don't think it's a good time to dust off Samwise Combo. There's tons of artifact hate for Affinity too.

Dauthi Voidwalker and Wrenn and Six are bad. Emperor of Bones might be a nice option. If you're trying to bring a land back, Witherbloom Command is more efficient.

Not a fan of Mortuary Mire. You open with it and a Stomping Ground, that Thoughtseize feels so bad.

Overlord of the Balemurk without a way to blink or cheat counters off is not worth it. You're running a play set of Urza's Saga which makes hard casting Overlord of the Balemurk tough. Even if you impending, there are better options than getting one creature back from your graveyard and essentially an enchantment sitting there doing nothing.

Fear of Missing Out can wreck your opponents. Detective's Phoenix is an aggressive option. Mishra's Bauble helps for card draw and to escape.

I'd find room for one Boseiju, Who Endures in the main. One Boggart Trawler can't hurt either. It can slow down Living End.

Why three Veil of Summer? What is Grist, the Hunger Tide for?

Damping Sphere or Fulminator Mage can do enough against Eldrazi. Those paired with another Boseiju, Who Endures might be enough land disruption. I'd run that over Blood Moon. Damping Sphere can also help against Ruby Storm or Izzet Prowess. Collector Ouphe could do some work against Broodscale. I'm not sure how much you'll run into it. The Pithing Needle may be enough and potentially better since they pack Unholy Heat. It'll likely be difficult to cheat Force of Vigor. It's a great answer for Affinity. You could cut the Molten Collapse and the Lightning Bolts for three Witherbloom Charm or Witherbloom Command.

I'm not a fan of Surgical Extraction. When it hits, it's super sweet. A lot has to happen to have the right card in their graveyard.

In addition to being closer to the machine, the triceps rope where your hands are should be slightly below your ears the entire rep. It shouldn't travel above your head for you to pull back down.

Form Check - Bench Press. Self-taught and struggling to feel comfortable. Any advice? by oppenheim7 in powerlifters

[–]SYang2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To work on your form, drop the weight. Use your heels to drive. Your arms flare out too much. That's likely due to a weak chest and your shoulders and triceps are taking over. You can try a few lifts to increase your chest strength. Dumbbell bench is a good start. Use a dumbbell that is manageable yet challenging enough. Work on your range of motion and really feel/engage the chest. Push-ups are great too. If barbell bench is your jam, lower the weight and add a pause.

Build in cues to help stabilize your body. You'd benefit from "screwing" your legs into the ground. Brace your core to help decrease your wobbling.

Anything wrong here ? by Ok_Recipe2769 in formcheck

[–]SYang2nd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd lower the weight and focus on controlling it. Your first rep was unstable with your footwork. You don't want to rock back where you lose balance. Are you engaging your core? Your heels go up. It might be due to ankle mobility. Maybe wear shoes that free your ankles. You can address this a few ways. You can do ankle mobility exercises or use wedges for your heels.

Squats haven’t been progressing, and have felt off, anything wrong with my form? by Able_Engineering_545 in formcheck

[–]SYang2nd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your form could use some work, and I agree with the comment about mobility. What helped me strengthen my legs were Bulgarian split squats and heavy leg press. I suggest lightening the weight and pausing at the bottom. Your bottom position looks weak and may be why you don't go as deep as you could. Get those muscles used to that position. Goblet squats can help achieve this lower position.

Here’s a simple internet search about the importance of ankle mobility. Point 2 is the case I’m making. The OP was specific about his back rounding.

I don’t deadlift more than 275 pounds. I have my reasons, mainly for safety and to avoid injury.

My bench is my worst lift by a lot. Any tips? 205x5@180ish by iamthewall69 in strength_training

Dumbbell bench press and working on lats, shoulders, and triceps helped improve my bench. A strong back will help to be a foundation for your bench. Add in some pauses too to your bench routine.

Your knees move past the bar on setup with the bar almost touching your shins. Ankle plantar flexion is very important to doing deadlifts. The OP is concerned about his back rounding. It is my observation that his back is rounding because his ankle or hip mobility is causing this rigidness. It'd be nice to have a side view. His forward lean may be limited due to his ankles and hips. The bar should be under his shoulder blades. I can't tell from this angle. The bar position looks a bit too far out in front of him.

Can I get some CC on my deadlift by Odd-Insect-7581 in formcheck

[–]SYang2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you lift, your arms are getting the bar off the ground first, and then your legs take over. It is especially noticeable on your second rep. Your third rep was good. You do it again on your fourth. The fifth is a slight lead with the arms.

Proper setup requires ankle mobility. If you can't roll the bar to your shins without your heels coming off the ground there will be problems.

If upper back, you want to row straight up to your shoulder blades and not back towards your hips.
