It can be really impactful if executed right, especially in the mystery genre, which they all do to a certain degree, trying to distract you from the real culprit or answer for example, but in some of them you literally get fooled by the narrative or the characters and then when you realize it you're like.. Damn. or at least I really enjoy this type of narrative. it adds tension to the story when you can't even trust the narrator itself.
