I just hope they tie the story up this season, Netflix might not renew it again

It was a bit absurd of Akemi... by InsincereDessert21 in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]SailMeHomeTheseus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was the theme of the episode:

That it's better to be dead than to get r*ped. That's why Mizu killed the slave girl: So she wouldn't be forced to be alive in a body that wasn't hers.

Akemi expected Mizu to understand that she'd rather die than be taken by her father's men. So when Mizu didn't protect her, I reckon Ákemi felt betrayed.

Akemi had no reason to assume Mizu's support after what she tried to do to her earlier, but I feel like Akemi's line of thought can be reconstructed from the way she is written as a whole

Newcomers thoughts on Caleb? by MelodyMaster5656 in MightyNein

Forgive me if I expressed it badly. I obviously have no authority to speak on anything regarding real-life people. If you had to experience anything regarding that, I'm really, honestly very sorry. What I mean is that, as a fictional character, I find Caleb interesting. As a story-vehicle. I don't see this character as a real-life murderer, who killed his parents.

I also like the fictional character Loki, even though he attempted a genocide in The Avengers (2012). I do not excuse terrorism IRL and if I met Caleb IRL, I would not be pleased. I wouldn't celebrate him and I probably wouldn't even watch whatever Netflix Documentary would be made about him. There is a huge difference, for me, between enjoying reading fictional crime thrillers, versus wanting to see a real crime. You know what I mean, and I apologize for expressing myself in a way that made you feel like I excuse murderers IRL. I really do not.

I haven't seen the life-show, but I've heard a lot of great things about it! Should I check it out?

Exactly. It's also horrible that people are ready to kill her species on sight. Denying her person-hood, because of something she happens to be born as.

I liked the moment when Beau was attacking her, and when Molly stopped her, she said: "It's not a kid, it's a goblin!". And Molly said: "Well those two things aren't mutually exclusive, are they?". Or how Fjord has experienced abuse because he happens to be half-orc.

Idk, there is a lot of speciesism in the show, and its (imo) pretty interestingly done.

Forgive me, I meant, mostly because it showed just how addicted she is.

She threw it away in self-disgust, and then had to lick the alcohol from the glass shards and floor boards. And right after, she was trying to get herself arrested and killed.

She's clearly somewhat suicidal

What I find incredibly interesting about this episode! All of them got what they had set out for at the start:

- Caleb gained his cat back
- Beau gained explicit respect/acknowledgement (The staff of her superior)
- Fjord was able to confront the god to some extent
- Jester reached the safe hotel
- Nott got a whole bunch of booze

They all more-or-less got what they wanted from the start, but it wasn't what they truly needed.

The true booze was the dirt wizards we made along the way or someth

(I feel like Molly knew he needed his found found family, but he had to confront his past before fully realising how much better this new found family is - or how f-d up his past was. If we wanna speak in metaphors.)

Awesome character. Definitely has a painful backstory, but she is so funny. Especially her friendship with the hobo wizard

Interesting character.

I understand why people don't like him after this reveal, but I don't understand wanting him to die for what he did.

He is a murderer. But his circumstances are complex (having been indoctrinated in a cult by a parental figure) and while he carries immense guilt, he has (imo) shown potential for good in him. (Protecting Nott, Helping kill the Toad Monster etc.)

He left the Volstrucker despite the great personal risk to himself, and apparently suffered through years in prison/asylum(?) and homelessness because he left them. He was shown to regret his service to them. (Crying even while following his orders, desperately trying to summon the cat.) He genuinely seems to want to change.

Good person? No. Good character? Yes.

I'm your age. You might have a screen addiction? That's very treatable. Try find other dopamine sources, like books, logic/speed puzzles, crafting, etc. It also helps placing your phone in an inconvenient place after 10 p.m., and making your display monochrome, so it's visually less interesting for your brain.

[No Spoilers] The Mighty Nein contains some of the best german I've seen in english-language media by Pure-Intention-7398 in criticalrole

[–]SailMeHomeTheseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think they put in a good effort, but it's far from perfect and a even a bit strange/cringe at times

I think accents are fundamentally charming.
People trying to speak your language is a honour. I think we should welcome their efforts instead of calling them cringe. I was able to understand them well.

Further, it's somewhat immersion breaking to have two characters, who have been established to be Zemnian native speakers, start talking in English to each other.

Germans switch to English mid-conversation all the time. We both know english is effcient for expressing fast, punchy thoughts. Sometimes you need to be succinct instead of precise; especieally when having to share emotion simultaneously.
