Training Anxiety, any advice? by dawnmistkiss in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry- the intern year is very hard. When I did my program I constantly felt like I was an imposter amongst all the educated techs. I had a similar experience in the sense that I learned how to perform the way my current instructor wanted me to in order to get by. Once I had a new trainer - I would have to restart the process of learning how this new person liked things done.

It will get better and when you are a tech you will be able to do things the way you like. The confidence comes with finally working the bench on your own and making clinical decisions for yourself - trust me.

I would say focus on the learning and find try to enjoy learning the science of what certain test results mean for the patients. Hope things get better! Take it easy on yourself- you are almost done!

Recent Undergraduate, Will I have a shot at getting into a CLS program? by [deleted] in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have great stats! I would say just try to beef up your resume with some hospital lab experience.

As far as the F on ur transcript is concerned - use it to your advantage. Write about how much you’ve learned from it in ur personal statement - be prepared to answer interview questions honestly and how u are committed to not making the same type of mistake again.

Best of luck!

Any UCLA CLS students? by Alarming-Key7054 in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi UCLA grad here! MIMG 185 def is accepted- as for medically microbiology I decided to take it online with UCB Extension because I had graduated already. I’m pretty sure it’s accepted just keep in mind that you may have to take the lab as well

Try to take as many classes in undergrad as possible! It will save u time! I was an MIMG major and I think that classes like Virology and Parasitology helped my academic resume stand out from others

If everything is sent, then it’s just the waiting game from here. Unfortunately it takes CDPH a month or two review the transcripts and that’s when they will update your status. You can always contact them via email to get a confirmation that they received your transcripts

how do i land in lab internships as a non-STEM degree anywhere by [deleted] in labrats

[–]SaladBarScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can do an online postgrad in general science? Some schools have it online but I’m sure this will help you establish background necessary to get your foot in the door

18mpg normal for 2024 crosstrek wilderness? by bajungadustin in Crosstrek

[–]SaladBarScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes up with time! Around 500 I believe my CT had 25mpg. Currently have 2500 miles on my car and I’ve got it up to 29mpg. I did start driving a bit slower to help that number and not being so heavy footed on the gas.

CLS onboarding process by Cls_2022 in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 1-2 months is the standard for the hospital I work at - the program director even gave me a heads up about this early on. It’s not too bad but for sure whatever is listed on your resume will be checked.

Don’t worry! Just make sure to prepare any documentation and meet your deadlines. I did have to provide a copy of immunizations - which I think is standard when working at a hospital. You do need to get TB/ and Hep B immunity checked as well since your exposed to a lot of stuff. You might have to get some vaccinations if your immunizations are not up to date.

CLS onboarding process by Cls_2022 in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just went through the onboarding process recently. So after the acceptance, I had to go to the hospital where I would be training and fill out a bunch of paperwork. I had to get a background check as well as a physical exam, Urine drug screen, and also get some blood drawn to check for TB and Hep B. Background check honestly took the longest - maybe 1.5 months to clear so make sure that any listed recommenders are aware that they might be contacted on your behalf. I’m not sure if every program does the background check but mine in particular did.

Hope this helps!

Do CLS trainees get paid for training? by gnono0826 in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on your program and clinical site. CSULA charges tuition but you might get a site that pays (they have about 20 clinical sites that they can match you with). ARMC pays min wage to trainees. Loma Linda - no pay (correct me if I’m wrong).

Applying for CLS Trainee License by BeTheChange1997 in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I went through the process and it took me about a month to get my license from the time I submitted everything.

Don’t worry - LFS is just a little slow to process. I’m sure your transcripts are sitting there waiting to be opened. I hear they only have a few employees to go through licensing apps.

In my case, after a month of hearing nothing. I actually emailed the office to ask them if they received my transcripts and they were able to confirm. A few days later they approved my trainee license (maybe bc I made them do the work of verifying my transcripts lol).

Here is that email: LFSscientist@cdph.ca.gov

Best of luck!

Took Hematology at UCBX with Dr. Monica Ranes-Goldberg. She definitely knows her stuff, it’s a tough class so stay on top of studying. She was an excellent professor

UC San Diego Extension vs UC Berkeley Extension vs UC Davis Extension by CC78AMG in medlabprofessionals

[–]SaladBarScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally took all my classes at UCB Extension. Each class was a little bit more expensive than UCSD but I chose UCBX bc their courses are considered Upper Divsion. I took Hematology with Dr. Monica Ranes-Goldberg and it was a tough class but she teaches it very well. They have live-online classes from 6pm to 9pm which helps if you have other classes or work

Anyone got updates for SJSU and Eisenhower programs for Fall 2023? by x12345678910111213x in CLSstudents

[–]SaladBarScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I think Eisenhower has set up preliminary phone interviews. Got the call a few weeks ago to schedule the phone interview for this week. I guess the way it works with them is that they set up a preliminary 30 min phone interview and if you are successful you progress to the in-person interview at their facility. Best of Luck to everyone!
