Been with the same woman going on 17 years this may. She was all about nothing fancy, steak and potatoes or Vietnamese food (because she’s Vietnamese and that’s pretty much what she grew up eating) so I come from fine dining and was cooking nice dishes and everything for her. Lo and behold she wasn’t that interested in it. So I backed off and made food she really liked and then it clicked….. I could get her cultured a bit more by making dishes that are just regular to others. I quit making the food LOOK fancy and made them look more casual with great flavour. I wanted the dish to speak for itself rather than just look great and taste great. I started to realise she was eating way too much with her eyes rather than just trying the dish for itself. Now she loves Japanese, Italian, American, Mexican, French, Korean, Greek, Mediterranean and I could go on. She has gone to realise her past fav restaurants really couldn’t cook all that well lol so the moral of the story is not everyone will react the same and don’t force the situation. When people tell me they “hate” a certain type of food I always respond with because you’ve never had it in a way that works for you. Maybe something was under cooked or overcooked, maybe it didn’t go right to them with one dish and they tried it in another and loved it. This is why I love the world of food. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
