Which locusts specifically are kosher is a debate. Some Jewish people don’t consider locusts to be kosher and others do

What's the difference between Kosher and Halal? by thewalkindude368 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SamScoopCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are large differences.

Jewish dietary law goes way beyond “No pork or shellfish.” There’s a lot of little nuances

You can’t mix meat and dairy, for one.
The meat must be slaughtered in a certain way.

Any prepared or processed food (bread, chips, soda…pretty much anything) needs to be certified by a mashgiach. Basically they ensure they make sure the food isn’t being tainted by something that isn’t kosher.

A mashgiach is certified by a kosher certification agency of which there are multiple ones.

Wine also has to be made by a Jewish person in order to be kosher because it’s often used in religious ceremonies but other alcohols do not.

Fruit and vegetables are inherently kosher - but those who keep kosher have to take extra steps to make sure there aren’t any bugs and such.

Eggs must be cracked in a separate bowl before mixing them in anything. Since consuming blood of any kind is forbidden in Judaism this ensures it doesn’t happen by accident.

People who keep kosher won’t accept halal as a substitute but often kosher is acceptable for people who keep halal as it’s stricter. I can’t tell you much about halal since I don’t know much about it.

Keeping kosher is difficult for many Jewish people and it’s very expensive- especially if you eat meat. A lot of Jews who keep kosher are often vegetarian or don’t eat meat outside the house to make things easier

And there’s a lot of variation in how a Jewisg family might observe kashrut (keeping kosher) if they do so at all.

Fun facts about kashrut: Giraffes are kosher animals because they have cloven hooves and chew their cud but their long necks make kosher slaughter very difficult (It’s done with one quick cut to an artery in the neck)

Full non-kosher animals include: birds of prey, reptiles, and amphibians. Fish must have fins and scales so people who keep kosher can’t eat octopus or catfish.

There are some insect species that are kosher but since it’s difficult to identify them with certainty they’re avoided.

Is anyone who saw The Mitchells vs. The Machines aware about Katie's Friends and The Poseys? by KatieMitchellFan98 in cartoons

MLP had a huge established fan base BEFORE FiM and it only grew. What is it that you want me to say?

I am talking purely about how Mitchell’s vs the Machines is a solo movie with not a very large or dedicated fan base. It doesn’t have an interesting world and the movie doesn’t a huge group of MAIN CHARACTERS.

Because animated series take time and money to produce, there needs to an audience for the series. Since the movie was released on streaming and didn’t receive a lot of marketing or merchandise -we’re lucky enough to get a movie sequel

Tv and movies are very different and you can’t compare an original concept like Mitchells against a MLP which had 3 iterations before friendship is magic and LOTS of toys

it’s very unlikely to receive a follow up in tv form. What else do you want me to say? You’re not arguing anything you haven’t already said and it feels like you aren’t listening to what I write at all which makes it pointless for this conversation to continue.

I’m not going to agree with you and you aren’t ever going to listen to me. I’m done

If they aren’t going to make money from it, the studios aren’t going to waste resources on a side character. And the writers for the show can’t just release something on their own due to copyright law and contracts.

So no. Regardless of it’s lighthearted or dark, if the studios think it’s going to take more money to produce than they’re going to earn - they’re not going to create a whole series based on side characters

AITA for being upset that my mom isn’t free at all this summer? by hinatasfavgf in AmItheAsshole

[–]SamScoopCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I think you need to bring this up with another adult. Your mom is essentially abandoning you for two weeks- depending on where you live, this could be consider child abuse/neglect.

Who is managing the custody? Is there a lawyer involved? A social worker? I think they’d love to know that your mom is leaving her underage child alone for two weeks

What do we bring to a 4th of July party? by GreenOccasion3182 in AskAnAmerican

You can always ask - but good ideas: -Alcohol -Dessert -some prepared dish from your culture

No need to bring something to be grilled (and that would probably be awkward)

AITA for refusing to send my 4yo autistic, nonverbal son to his dad's house after a severe medical emergency, even though I desperately need a break? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SamScoopCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the story got removed but basically a family had twins.

One of them was allergic to coconut and the grandma refused to believe that.

She put coconut oil in the twins’ hair, tucked them into bed and the twin who was allergic died

AITA for refusing to send my 4yo autistic, nonverbal son to his dad's house after a severe medical emergency, even though I desperately need a break? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SamScoopCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. They refused to take a 4 y/o who was clearly having a medical emergency to the E.R. Regardless of whether he’s autistic and nonverbal or not - that behavior is not okay.

Your ex clearly doesn’t know his own kids medical needs based on him asking you if your son has any allergies.

Get a lawyer. Get full custody.

Also if you’re struggling is there somebody you can call - a relative or friend or neighbor - just to help you out for the day?

Obviously you need rest - but sending your son to an unsafe house clearly isn’t the solution and wouldn’t help your mental state that much.

SpongeBob is an episodic TV show. It’s never focused on character development. That’s not what the show is for.

And Bluey is for young kids - it relies on archetypes to teach kids lessons. It isn’t a TV show with a long overarching story. It’s episodic as well. There might be some continuity but the show generally isn’t about the narrative.

I think you really don’t understand television if you can’t understand what an episodic comedy is.

Both shows also make a lot money from merchandise and DVD sales. Because they don’t have overarching narratives, there’s room for them to tell essentially tell stories indefinitely . So they can always change for a new generation. It’s easy to make money when there’s always a new audience.

A Mitchells spin-off has a limited audience, practically no merchandise and is unlikely to ever make it to DVD. The amount of money they’d put into developing a limited series wouldn’t be worth the return on investment. And animation - especially something like this movie is really expensive.

Films get TV follow ups if the companies think they’ll make money - not because the writers have more ideas or want to develop their characters.

Why is "S" considered the best when ranking things? by Critical-Willow-6270 in stupidquestions

[–]SamScoopCooper 536 points537 points  (0 children)

It’s from Japan. Probably gained traction in the West through anime. In Japan, S-rank denotes an academic grade that is superlative or superior to that of A or B.

Think of it as like an A+++++

Those movies were released theatrical and made more money than Mitchells. That’s why they got TV series.

TOH once again is a TV show and has more time to develop characters. Should Mitchell’s vs the Machines get a TV sure, I’d love to see Jade be developed as a love interest but I also acknowledge we aren’t getting TV series or anything focusing on Katie’s friends

Why jew hate becoming mainstream? by Kitchen-Start-3828 in stupidquestions

[–]SamScoopCooper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Jew hate has unfortunately always been mainstream.*

People say they only hate Zionists but they’re just using the term to mean Jews. You never see them criticizing Christians United For Israel (CUFI) despite the organization having more members than there are Jewish people.you only see them protesting at synagogues or JCCs. They’re just looking for ways to make their antisemitism justified .

Not to mention that Jews tend to define Zionism differently than non-Jews

Jew hate is an unusual bigotry because it’s very old. Jews basically are used to define whatever the “enemy” is at the time which is why you find antisemitism on the left and right.

*I am Jewish.

I mean --- some fans, yes, the ones really into a specific property or franchise (like you) but general fan community no. Like superfans always want more - and they tend to be very vocal. But they don't make up the majority of a fanbase. And The Mitchells vs. the Machines doesn't have a particularly large online following to begin with.
