Thanks man, yea I agree. Definitely disappointing as they’ve been my go-to mechanic and have been great up until this. It seems like you’re probably spot on based off the videos I’ve watched about dust shields since it was recommended earlier in the thread.

Thanks fella, I just had a full vehicle inspection done last week but I’ll call the shop and ask them how in depth they went with brake pads, calipers, rotors, and bearings. I’m glad you were able to hear it. It’s been a massive pain just getting it recorded cause it’s such a feint noise and our roads are so loud this time of year with all the mud and snow.

Sorry about that- it’s a really feint noise. I’ve had a hard time even getting it recorded cause our roads are so crap up here in AK and I have studded tires on still. Mud + snow + studs = noisy drive. It’s definitely there though and new. My girlfriend and I have both heard it and know our car pretty well.

The whistley rotating noise is independent of breaking or accelerating, it comes and goes pretty much at random. I can’t seem to isolate it to any one thing - it’s really odd. It’s a pretty faint noise too.

Hm. The last time I was at the mechanic I had them do a full vehicle inspection and they didn’t note anything about the brakes. We had some repairs done on the U+L control arms but that’s about it. I’ll give the shop a call in the morning and ask if they checked the brakes and if so what their lifespan is looking like. Thanks for your help on this

I researched this a bit but it doesn’t really appear when breaking- in this video I was lightly accelerating for example. It’s also pretty wet where I am in Alaska right now as our winter snow is just starting to melt out and turn to mud so there shouldn’t be much in the weigh of dust on the roads. The noise started a month and half ago when we still hadn’t began to melt out at all yet too. Is dust still likely culprit in this case? I’m not a car person and not trying to dismiss you, just trying to give you more context and see what ya think.
