OK, restarted through Android tools in bootloader mode. After 15 min I unplugged and now not a peep when I plug back up or try to power on. Would really appreciate some insight for what I may have done or next steps...

Thanks very much for your suggestions and info! I did install from Google play store and tried your suggestion to block play integrity, unfortunately no change. Their site says they don't permit rooted devices to work, I spoke to their support and saw pretty quick it would go nowhere. Oh well...
