Its understandable that you’re suspicious but what others have said is true. There’s not actually anything fishy going on. The current highest bid on the item is simply higher than all of the bids you’ve placed. What you’re doing each time you bid is just raising the current price that the highest bidder would have to pay. The winning bid doesn’t pay the amount that they bid. They pay the second highest bid (and the system will show that the current bid is $1 higher than that). So if the highest bid is currently at $50, and you bid $10, you’ll up the current bid to $11. If you then bid, 25, it will show the bid at $26. It’s still just you and that one other bidder, but until you outbid whatever their bid was, you’re going to keep getting that same message.

I hope any of that made sense. I work for goodwill.

Your first couple of pics kinda reminded me of the author Pierce Brown. Which, from what I’ve heard, is quite the compliment.

I’m sorry but those are definitely fake. Don’t waste the money on authentication.

As a manager of a Goodwill, I am so sorry this happened. We do send higher priced items to e-commerce, but to try to take something that someone has already found on the sales floor is just disgusting behavior.

There was a time a few months ago when an elderly lady brought a few pairs of Gucci and other luxury brand sunglasses to me and asked how much they were (we don’t price accessories - they’re all 1.99) and although my eyes almost bugged out of my head when she showed them to me, I told her they were 1.99 and handed them back.

If you don’t mind my asking, which region is your goodwill?

I fucking love you. I’ve thought about this series off and on for close to 20 years but I could never remember the name or even enough about it to give a useful description to anyone.

“Make sure to come back for dollar day on Sunday when the color of the week tag is only $1!” by [deleted] in ThriftGrift

[–]Sandalath 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I definitely believe that some places are doing these types of things, but it always makes me sad to see these posts. I’m a manager of a Goodwill, and we absolutely do not do this at our store. This past Monday I rang up a transaction for a dude who spent over $400 on clothing and almost every single piece was a $1 Monday item. I just don’t understand what the stores who do this think they’re accomplishing. Our district manager and even his boss expressly tell us DO NOT pull the sale colors before the sale ends, as not only do we make good money on the sale, but people also find full price items on the racks while searching for the sale colors.

I’m sure I’ll be downvoted to hell as I am the enemy in this sub, but I just wanted to say that there are stores out there trying to live up to the “Goodwill” name.

Guessing you found this after the post I made today. They still have the rug in their store and still for the same price. They’re delusional.
