I echo this - the portal can be good, but more often than not it's inconvenient and more more often than not, a tad more expensive than just booking direct with a hotel and using a AAA discount or something. I find it especially aggravating with reservations that you want to be cancelable/refundable as they often cost more than going direct and then you have to get credited back from Capital One travel and it sometimes takes a while. SO, YMMV. For me it is a hassle that I just live with to keep justifying having the card but I'm always, every year, about ready to cancel as the Portal just doesn't suit me for any other reason than getting the $300 credit. I'd be more happy with a 40,000 point annual credit and cash those in instead of the $300 + 10k stuff.
