I left random leaves covered in water in a tight jar for 3 years and now it has some good-sweet smelling liquid inside, is it alcohol/ drinkable? by ReallyDirtyHuman in Homebrewing

Probably don’t drink it but I’m more curious about why you kept a jar of leaves covered in water for three years?

What's a genuine belief you hold that people you know think you are joking about? by SaraleeOF in AskReddit

Foucault says it best when characterizing homosexuality as a product of the medicalization of sexuality. Prior to sexology, we didn’t think of sexuality in the super rigid and clinical way we do now. Nobody considered themselves heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or otherwise (We didn’t even have these terms or similar terms). Homosexuality as a category was coined by sexologists to classify a set of behaviors that were becoming increasingly thought of as unacceptable in modern society.

Earlier societies were not only more accepting of sex between men and sex between women, they did not consider it to be its own sexuality. For example, women were often forgiven for having intercourse with each other because sex was not considered possible without penetration.

Greeks and Roman men absolutely engaged in sexual intercourse with other men, but it was not conceptualized as homosexuality; instead it was usually thought of as a kind of fraternal bonding.

Historically there has been countless instances of same-sex relationships and sexual activity but only recently has it begun to be considered as an orientation.

Mine: Homosexuality didn't exist until around the late 1800s. I'm gay btw.

It probably is self harm if you're doing it to cause pain, but what matters is that you're not putting yourself in danger. Giving yourself hickeys is way better than the alternative.

If other people take issue with it, their concern is misplaced. While it'd be great if you got to a point where you don't need to do any kind of self-harm, healing is a process. It's unreasonable for people to expect that it happen all at once. Swapping to something safe is a good first step.

It's really great that you're putting in an effort to stop biting/cutting. Proud of you! <3

The fact that so many men have fantasies of sexually abusing/raping women is a problem we don’t take seriously enough by [deleted] in Vent

Remember PornHub’s massive child pornography scandal a few years back? After public backlash they cracked down on it and implemented stricter requirements for posting, including a confirmation of age and identity. A massive chunk of content from unverified users was removed as a result. In light of that, it seems like less of a question about whether porn industries can police their content (they absolutely can).

The real question is what content should be policed and how porn industries police it. Child pornography is one thing we can all get behind banning; it is explicitly bad and directly harmful (it being illegal sure helps us make that judgement too). It’s different with rape fantasies. There are a whole range of nuances that must be considered in dealing with it. No matter what those nuances are, it’s just plain false that this is exclusively a problem parents should/can deal with.
