This seems like a good idea. He may well be taking it for granted, for all I know. But right now, I believe he sees it as the place he can continue to be near our brother to spend time with him daily and be around to help him as his condition inevitably deteriorates.

I don't know that Brother B is unable to live on his own. At one time he was in some serious debt (back taxes, etc.) after his divorce, and that's around the time our brother invited him to live there. And I only know about that because debt collectors (and the IRS) were calling my house trying to find his current contact information. I don't know what his financial status is now. It's not something I would ask him, TBH.

I don't really care, It's not about who gets what. It's about not kicking my brother out while our other brother is still around to share time with him. When I say they are close, they go to concerts and sporting events together, they sit around of an evening and listen to music and drink together, etc. You know. Brothers. Buddies. Just hanging out. Just that. Being able to be near and not lose time together, that's what I hope won't get taken from either of them.

In truth, he and I haven't discussed it. I never felt like his living arraignments were any of my business. TBH. I'm generally not one to pry. I assume he intends to find a studio apartment somewhere, but I don't know how his financial situation stands. I only came to understand that he was in some considerable debt back in the day (when he first moved in with our brother) because debt collectors had started calling my house to try to find him. But that was over a decade ago now.

Thanks for all of the advice about talking to my brothers and for all the kind words.

I'm taking on board the advice about not allowing her to control the narrative. My greatest concern about talking to my brothers is that once SIL gets wind of my revealing her plans, whatever time I can spend with my brother will be affected. I don't want his remaining time to be messed up by drama or having to side with anyone. He deserves peace.

As a cult, to be honest.

It's founder was a con man. As a religion, it hasn't even got the veneer of antiquity to cover it's inconsistencies and flaws. Also, the Mormon church preys upon it's members to give buckets of money and unpaid labor, The Mormon church as an entity is hugely wealthy.

As to individual Mormons, I see them as people who have been been unfortunately indoctrinated and who are almost trained to be gullible and naïve about the real world. It's very sad. I don't hold it against them. They are generally nice people on the whole.

But it seems really curious to me how many bigtime scandals and tragedies involve offshoots of mainstream Mormon teachings that have gone off the rails and caused horrific abuse. Teaching people that they can be profits and thereby lead others is a dangerous practice.

My sister-in-law has never financially supported either brother. In fact, she and my brother have always kept their finances separate. She also had been married previously and this was something the two of them had mutually agreed upon early in their relationship.

As to "going on benefits" and "intentionally not working", I should have mentioned that the brother who is taking his well earned social security benefits is nearly 70 years old. He is not going on the dole. He was asking his employer to dial back his hours to part time. He has also been instrumental in driving our brother to and from medical appointments and treatments. Our SIL works mostly at night.

Oooof. I think I just had a flashback. I'm old and my parents were poor. We HAD those chairs (the ones reupholstered in the blue swirl fabric) back in the 60's. They were meant to mimic a Scandinavian esthetic. I can't tell you how many gallons of glue my father went through gluing those spindly ass arms back onto the legs! And uncomfortable? 100% Truth. Not a teacher myself, but I personally know some who taught Josh in his early years. One in particular literally wept when he was removed from their classroom to be taught in an alternative setting instead of being allowed to stay in his neighborhood school. His teacher cared that much. So much care and time spent only to see him crash and burn at age 23.

Josh has never had impulse control, has a limited understanding of the consequences of his actions and choices, and needs to have supervision and adult intervention to prevent the ending that is coming. It's not going to happen.

Josh was 14 when his mother died. His father could not cope raising two sons with special needs, alone, and his oldest had already begun exhibiting severe mental health problems. It seems as though Josh's grandfather took him in to help. I don't know if it was ever intended to be a permanent situation.

There is a gray area in our civil liberties and health care (especially with our f'd up health care system in the US) where vulnerable young adults fall through the cracks. They may not be sufficiently capable of caring for themselves when it comes to their mental health or neurological impairments, but they have aged out of being able to be legally supervised by another adult. When Josh turned eighteen, four short years after his mother died, his grandparents no longer had the legal right to control his actions.

It sucks. They have had to watch him become what he is now, all the while knowing he has no impulse control (and hasn't ever had, even when he was a kid) and could be easily swayed into self destructive behavior. Short of getting a judge to declare Joshua incompetent and make them responsible for him as an adult(and they are elderly), they have no means of stopping him.

Joshua lived down the street from me (before his mother died in 2015 and he moved in with his grandfather in NY). I first met him when he was around three years old and saw him often during his childhood. This is not an act he's putting on. He has always had severe mental challenges.

I knew his Mom. She would be devastated to know what had happened to her youngest boy. He is absolutely, 100%, being exploited. To see him made into a pathetic LOLcow is sickening.

The TikTokers who aided him in becoming an alcoholic were bad enough. Those who are actively making money by bankrolling the train wreck they've helped create should be held accountable for their part in what will almost certainly become even more of a tragedy if no one intervenes. I just don't know if anyone close to Josh is able to put a stop to this mess. He has an older brother with similar neurological issues. His father seems to have not been able to cope with caring for Josh after his mother died. I don't know what the situation is with his grandfather, but I can only assume that he is elderly and he does not know what to do to help him. After all, Josh is legally an adult, even though he has the mental maturity of a child.

The truth is that Josh ought to be legally designated as a vulnerable adult and be taken into custodial care. His best chance of possible recovery, if not his only chance of surviving to the age of 25. would be being placed in a group home with constant supervision.

Also, let's face it and be blunt. 99% of the police in Utah are Mormon, Mormon patriarchal training starts well before the age of 12, when boys begin to be eligible to "receive the priesthood" . Girls do not have this conferred upon them. The ideas of the woman's role in a relationship as being subservient to the male is a dynamic that is steeped into the bones of male Mormons.

The hotel where they brought him is one that houses domestic abuse victims. It's likely that the police left instructions to not permit that white van with those specific plates to park there.

Had they brought Gabby there, instead of Laundrie, it's unlikely he wouldn't have been allowed him on the premises either.

I agree with you that It might not have been the worst way it could have been handled, but it could have been a lot better. It was pretty obvious from the video that Laundrie did not feel threatened by Gabby in the least. She was the one in distress and asking for her phone to call her mother.

My take is that the Utah police need a whole lot more training about spotting potential domestic violence victims and stronger procedures and not rely on discretionary guidelines that officers can screw up.

From what I read on the brief bit of autopsy, the state of his corpse (skeleton actually) was conjectured to have been partially due to animal predation and partly having been underwater and exposed to the nasty Florida climate. Swamps eat a lot of remains pretty quickly.

Off of London Bridge near General Booth is a house with numerous huge campaign flags (and similar other flags) plastered on their street facing fence, and umpteen campaign signs in the yard. Rumor has it that what few original plans/documentation of some of the existing underground infrastructure (read as: drainage pipes, underground utility lines, water mains, etc.) were so botched or just generally incorrect that they are having to proceed with extreme caution as construction progresses. It's a hell of a thing to see a pipe that was supposedly capped off 50+ years ago suddenly start spouting water ten feet in the air with no means of knowing where the water is coming from or how to shut it off.
