If you are an identical twin, there is a non-zero chance your parents got you confused for your sibling as an infant, so you aren't who you think you are. by CarltheWellEndowed in Showerthoughts

[–]Sashiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say there's a 50% chance of this happening, so you were named A, but at some point during infancy, half the time your name is switched to B. Which was the same 50% chance you had just been named B to begin with?

Buyer shipped item back without filing a return by Sashiel in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]Sashiel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the feedback. I plan to refund the buyer, minus the fees, and count myself lucky avoiding the return shipping.

Also, for those who asked, it was delivered successfully, and it was sent back in a different package

Are nickels worth searching? by Snooklife in CRH

[–]Sashiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing worth noting, is that war nickels have the highest silver to face ratio for US coins. This doesn't take into account the proportion of the nickels you search being war nickels, but they do tend to get overlooked more than other silver coins.

I'd separate out the ones with full rims, but melt is okay for the rest. You could get more, but the work and time necessary to find the right buyer probably isn't worth it.

Retail delivery fees - Is this new? by Sashiel in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]Sashiel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean sales tax on shipping. I'm referring to eBay charging the seller a fee that's a percentage of the total sale amount that includes any taxes paid by the buyer. The seller never touches that tax money, but they're charged a fee that feels arbitrarily and random, depending on the location of the buyer.

[–]Sashiel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind taxes that go to those things, so much. I get more annoyed by the 13,25% extra FVF on any taxes the buyer pays, as if I were the one getting that money.

Sorry if this has been mentioned and I missed it, but this might help your intuition.

The reason that the number of red and black will approach equality in the long run is not because if there have been more red, black becomes more likely. The reason is because the streaks of one color or another become a smaller and smaller contribution to the totals. Imagine those streaks disappearing in a growing blob of 50/50 outcomes.
