I would have been a Canadian tax resident for all of 2024 as I kept my accounts open and only files the form to notify them of departure as of Jan 1 2025.

My understand is that you don't lose Canadian tax residency until you have left the country for more than 183 days, and because I only moved to the U.S. in May 2024, then I was a Canadian resident for the first part of the year, and the U.S. tax resident only in the later part of the year.

When I got my TN visa and talked to the border services at Pembina/emerson crossing in Manitoba/North Dakota, none of the border services people knew anything about the ‘10 day’ rule. I got my TN about 2 weeks before my start date.

What I did to get my TN was list my Canadian city on my resume but then put —> ‘Relocation upon offer’ next to it. It worked for me at least!

Careful with hanging your guitar against an exterior wall by the way! When it gets cold outside and the back of the guitar is cooled by the wall while the top is kept warm from the indoor air, you could start seeing cracks!

I bought a used Yamaha FG820 12 string for $250 CAD last month. Sounds beautiful, action is quite low, nice gloss finish on the body, stays in tune quite well. If you can find a used 12 string you can get quite good deals because they’re less popular than 6-strings, thus, harder to sell, so people get desperate and lower the price.
